"Nu baknang ak lang kuma"

We often incorporate "if only I'm rich" whenever we see people that are less fortunate than us. Witnessing them struggling in life financially that it melts our hearts on the blaze.

The connection is harder when you experienced it yourself.

The walks of truth in a society where young people strive to eat two times a day after school, glimpsing children asking for food or selling things instead of enjoying their youth, or seeing adults covering themselves using cartoons under strong rains. The reality of walking behind the stones of the world where the only choice you have is to cover it with your arms.

But the real pain is when you witness the struggle and you can't do anything.

Financially speaking, if the statement "it's the thought that counts" works, then we would have a better world to live in. But frankly speaking, the only way to heal your conscience is to thrive- get richer until you finally can say "mabalinen".

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, YFPBC ✨

HAPPY IBALOY FESTIVAL!

From valleys to highways, mountains to the plain comes the birth of unending unison of the Ibaloi people. It has never been a story of myth nor a legendary fiction but an origin of history and culture.

"Ibaloy" is constructed from the prefix "I" which indicates an ethnic group or people and "baloy" which means "house". Then, refers to " those who dwell in houses". Meanwhile, "I" in the Ibaloy language translates to origin or location while "baloy" means specific location within the area.

The Ibaloy are an ethnic group residing in Baguio and the surrounding areas which include the majority of Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, and Nueva Vizcaya on which they coexist with the Kankanaey and the Kalanguyas in these areas. The Ibaloy people dwell largely in the mountains of Baguio and the communities of Kabayan, Bokod, Sablan, Tublay, La Trinidad, Tuba, Itogon, and Southern fractions of Kapangan and Atok.

They are known to be strong, powerful, and often fair-skinned. Jokingly, people assume that they are Ibaloy based only on their skin color. Often say "Ibaloi ka inya, napudaw ka gamin ya".

In Ibaloy ways of life, they inhabit an undulating and rocky environment that provides them with small flat floors ideal for agricultural operations. They also have a knack for terracing mountain slopes and cultivating them with rice where their staple grain of tapey or tapuy (rice wine) is generated. Irrigation from mountaintops to lower levels is an undertaking engineering with water being transported kilometers distant via trenches and bamboo pipelines.

There are more to Ibaloy people but their beauty in all aspects cannot be deemed to be shadowed. Mountains may be that high enough to climb but the Culture and History of Ibaloy people will never be ashamed to grow higher. Happy Ibaloy Festival. Enkasakasat tayon emin!
