ROJAN MEL U. DE LOS SANTOS: A CORDILLERAN TEACHER-RAPPER FROM TADIAN AND SAGADA
Bridging the worlds of education and music, Rojan Mel U. De Los Santos, also known as Rmel, is carving a distinct path as both a teacher and a rapper rooted in Cordilleran identity.
Hailing from Sagada and Kayan, Tadian in Mountain Province, Rmel carries his heritage into his craft, using music not just as entertainment but as a platform for storytelling, cultural expression, and community connection. Now based in Baguio City, he continues to balance his role in the classroom with his growing presence in the local music scene.
Rmel’s work reflects a deep sense of purpose, blending relatable narratives with themes of personal struggle, social realities, and identity. Among his original compositions are “Salarin,” “Lila,” and “Lagi Ka Na Lang,” tracks that showcase his versatility and lyrical depth.
More than just an individual artist, Rmel actively collaborates with fellow creatives, contributing to the strengthening of the local music community. He is also affiliated with KWRT Records, a platform that supports emerging voices in the region.
Recently, he released a new track titled “Kurap,” further establishing his voice in the rap scene. The song continues his advocacy of using music as a medium for awareness, reflection, and cultural pride.
As both an educator and an artist, Rmel stands as an example of how passion and purpose can intersect, proving that music can educate, inspire, and preserve identity all at once.
