Progressive groups, institutions, and residents of Baguio and Benguet took part in the protest in support of the National Day of Action Against Corruption today, September 21.
Shouting loud chants to condemn the abuses of the past and present administrations, the public demanded transparency and called out those they deemed accountable for the current government lapses in the country.
Saint Louis University (SLU) was among the participating universities in the said rally.
In a solidarity message delivered on behalf of SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert Sales, CICM, by Atty. Shellah Yzanne Merced, SLU Vice President for Administration, the university emphasized that the call for accountability sets aside differences and transcends boundaries:
โNonetheless, let us be clear. We should realize that todayโs call for accountability transcends any and all religious, socioeconomic, and other apparent and even non-tangible differences. This call goes beyond boundariesโฆ Foremost, we are here because this call against corruption is one that we make not only for ourselves, or for our family, but for the liberation of everyone against all whose greed equated to their blindness or deafness or intentional defiance towards the need of our nation, of all our people.โ
