Private First Class Gener Tinangag PN(M), an Igorot from Mountain Province with just a year in service, received the Medal of Valor for his courage during June 9, 2017 mission in Marawi City. Amid heavy enemy fire at Mapandi Bridge, he and three Marines volunteered to evacuate wounded and fallen troops to the Casualty Collection Point during a reinforcement and extraction operation.
Amid intense enemy fire, PFC Tinangag’s team evacuated wounded and fallen troops to the CCP. Exhausted, the team paused to rest, but PFC Tinangag, ignoring his own safety, decided to continue and fearlessly advanced through the shower of gr***des and heavy machine gun fires. He made four solo trips to rescue four wounded Marines trapped in a nearby mosque and brought them to safety.
While retrieving the body of the already expired 1LT Savellano during that time under enemy fire, PFC Tinangag drew sniper attention and was wounded by a shot and gr***de shrapnel. Despite his injuries, he carried his fallen comrade 200 meters to the CCP, evading heavy fire, before collapsing and succumbing to his wounds. His heroism inspired fellow troops to push forward, ultimately aiding in the liberation of Marawi City. Through his selfless actions during the five-hour battle, he saved four wounded Marines and recovered one KIA at the cost of his own life. By this singular display of heroism, Private First Class Gener Tinangag PN (M) distinguished himself in combat, keeping with the finest traditions of Filipino soldiery.
