Severe Tropical Storm Nearing Northern Luzon Landfall
BENGUET and some areas in Luzon now under TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNAL (TCWS) #1
Severe Tropical Storm Paolo is moving west-northwest and is expected to make landfall over either Isabela or northern Aurora Friday morning, October 3, according to the latest forecast.
Weather authorities said a slight southward shift in the storm’s track remains possible depending on the strength of the high-pressure area located to the north of the system.
After crossing Northern Luzon, Paolo is projected to emerge over the West Philippine Sea by Friday afternoon and continue its west-northwest movement.
It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning, October 4.
Forecasters have not ruled out the possibility of Paolo strengthening into a typhoon before landfall.
However, they said typhoon intensity is more likely once the storm moves over the West Philippine Sea.
Residents in Northern Luzon are advised to prepare for heavy rains and strong winds as Paolo approaches.
Other areas under TCWS #1 include Mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the northern portion of Zambales (Palauig, Masinloc, Candelaria, Santa Cruz), Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, the northern portion of Bulacan (Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso), the northern portion of Pampanga, (Magalang, Arayat, Candaba, Mabalacat City), the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar) including Polillo Islands, and the northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga)
