Two drug suspects arrested in Baguio; suspected shabu seized

Police arrested a 33-year-old woman listed as the No. 6 regional-level Top Most Wanted Person and a 36-year-old man in separate operations in Baguio City on Sept. 8, the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region said.

Police said five sachets containing a combined 10.1 grams of suspected shabu, valued at P68,680, were recovered from the 36-year-old man after he allegedly fled a routine checkpoint on Bonifacio Street.

The arrests formed part of a series of anti-illegal drug operations in Abra, Baguio City and Kalinga in which police reported seizing suspected shabu with a total stated value of P133,960.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S26 FE in the Philippines, with prices starting at ₱46,990 and introductory discounts of up to ₱7,000.

Solar power reaches remote Benguet school

Kiweng Primary School in Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet, has received a 5-kWp hybrid solar power system under AuroraPH, a program of Aboitiz Foundation.

SNAP-Benguet said the installation will provide electricity for the school’s 23 students and two teachers and support the use of digital learning tools.

The system includes 10 solar panels, a hybrid inverter and battery storage, along with an LED television for learning activities.

The project was turned over on Aug. 26, 2026. It is SNAP-Benguet’s third project with Aboitiz Foundation.

16 candidates vie for Miss Baguio 2026 crown

Sixteen women from communities across Baguio will compete for the Miss Baguio 2026 crown on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.

Aged 19 to 28, the candidates come from backgrounds in nursing, tourism, psychology, hospitality, education, business and the arts.

Their stated advocacies include mental health, inclusive education, cultural preservation, youth development, sustainability and support for local artists.

The coronation starts at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.

People's Choice voting closes at 7 p.m.

Janela Recio of Trancoville, Miss Baguio 2025, will pass on the crown following tonight's coronation.

Sixteen candidates vie for the Miss Baguio 2026 crown on Sept. 5, bringing varied backgrounds and advocacy platforms to the Baguio pageant.

The Philippine Military Academy will restrict access to Fort General Gregorio H. Del Pilar in Baguio City on Sept. 5-6 for the PMA Entrance Examination 2026.

Vehicles accompanying examinees will only be allowed up to the Fort Del Pilar Elementary School area, where PMA buses will ferry examinees to and from the testing venue.

PMA advises examinees to arrive as early as 7 a.m. and bring water, meals, snacks and rain protection.

PMA will close Fort Del Pilar in Baguio City to the public on Sept. 5-6 as it hosts the 2026 entrance exam, with shuttle buses for examinees.

PBGen Noel Bayaca Vallo has formally assumed office as the 34th regional director of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO CAR).

Vallo took charge during Arrival Honors at Camp Major Bado Dangwa in La Trinidad, Benguet, on Sept. 1, following the Aug. 28 turnover of command in Quezon City.

In his message, Vallo underscored the need for communities to feel the presence of police not only during crises or when crimes occur, but in everyday life.

BDO Unibank's BDO Kabayan page has received an Award of Merit in the Social Media category at the Philippine Quill Awards for the second consecutive year.

The recognition was given for its “Alagang Kabayan: Where Every Kabayan Belongs” campaign, which BDO says provides overseas Filipino workers with financial tips, remittance updates and content aimed at helping them stay connected with their families in the Philippines.

The KBP Baguio-Benguet Chapter and its partners planted pine and alnos saplings at the Tam-awan vicinity on Aug. 29, continuing the 16-year-old Broadcastreeing initiative in the city.

About 45 to 50 participants joined the activity, which was supported by government agencies, civic groups and private-sector partners.

BCDA has granted original proponent status to the Maynilad Water Services Inc.-Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-Water) consortium for a proposed P14.8-billion water supply and wastewater management project in New Clark City, Tarlac.

The project will still undergo required approvals and a Swiss challenge, where other qualified private-sector proponents may submit competing proposals.

BCDA is targeting a contract award in December 2026, subject to the PPP process and other conditions.

SSS says it is strengthening pension protection, expanding member loans and widening digital services as it marks its 69th anniversary.
