Luigi Mangione is expected to plead guilty Friday to federal charges accusing him of stalking in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, sources told ABC News.

He entered the Manhattan federal courtroom shortly after 11 a.m. wearing tan prison clothes.

Members of Thompson’s family, including his wife and mother, were present in the front row for the first time, along with UnitedHealthcare executives.

There is no plea agreement with federal prosecutors, and Mangione faces the possibility of life in prison if he proceeds. He has approached a guilty plea before and previously backed out.

Federal charges were narrowed earlier this year after a judge dismissed the murder and firearm counts, leaving two stalking-related charges. A separate state case involving second-degree murder charges is still pending, with trial scheduled to begin in September.

U.S. intelligence agencies assessed that an Iranian threat against Air Force One was not credible before President Trump was secretly transferred to another plane in Turkey, sources told ABC News.

The intelligence, which originated with Israel and pointed to a possible shoulder-fired missile plot, was shared as Trump prepared to leave the NATO summit in Ankara. Israeli officials had limited time to fully evaluate the information.

U.S. agencies ultimately determined it did not represent a serious or immediate threat. Despite those doubts, the Secret Service recommended extra precautions and moved the president via a catering truck to a different military aircraft for the return flight.

Trump later said he simply followed Secret Service and military guidance on the change. Authorities continued investigating afterward but found no evidence of an active operational plot.

The Kennedy Center board voted Thursday to restore President Trump’s name to the building’s facade and close most of the venue for two years to allow major renovations.

Under the plan, the building would be labeled “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated By President Donald J. Trump,” and the plaza in front would also be named after him.

The decision comes after a federal judge earlier ruled that previous attempts to add Trump’s name were illegal and ordered the letters removed. The same judge had also blocked an earlier plan for a two-year closure.

Board leaders say the renovations are necessary due to significant water damage, corroded steel, and outdated equipment. Critics on the board called the vote a rubber-stamp move that seeks to work around the court’s previous rulings.

A ruling on the legal challenges is still pending.

A federal lawsuit alleges that immigration raids in Southern California under the Trump administration have been conducted without warrants and without the required escape-risk determinations, making them unlawful.

The suit, filed by individual Latino workers and several advocacy organizations including the ACLU of Southern California, claims agents have routinely arrested people without following federal requirements. Plaintiffs also argue the enforcement has targeted Latino communities based on race.

According to the ACLU, a review of 113 arrest records found that nearly 80 percent either lacked any escape-risk assessment or used only boilerplate language.

A hearing on Thursday allowed both sides to present final arguments. A ruling is expected within the next several weeks. The government has previously defended the stepped-up enforcement as necessary to uphold the rule of law.

The WNBA on Wednesday pushed back against what it called “bad-faith” efforts to create a narrative about transgender women in the league.

In a statement, a league spokesperson said there are currently no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA and strongly denounced attempts to use the topic to demean or marginalize others.

The league’s collective bargaining agreement states that only players who are women are eligible to play, though it does not include more specific language about gender identity or s*x assigned at birth.

Two former NBA players recently declared themselves eligible for the next WNBA draft while identifying as women. The draft is scheduled for next April.

Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has said the league plans further discussions and listening sessions with team leaders and the Players Association on the subject.

There has never been a transgender woman on a WNBA roster.

Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma plan to execute inmates on the same day Thursday, marking the first time in nearly 16 years that three people would be put to death on a single day in the United States.

The last time three executions occurred on the same date was January 7, 2010.

In Tennessee, authorities are scheduled to execute Anthony Darrell Hines, who was convicted in the 1985 stabbing death of a motel maid. The case has drawn attention after a previous lethal injection attempt in the state was halted due to problems establishing an IV line.

Alabama plans to execute Jeremy Williams, who pleaded guilty to the 2021 r**e and murder of a 5-year-old girl. Williams has asked that his death sentence be carried out.

Oklahoma is set to execute Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez for the 2003 killing of his girlfriend. He has declined clemency.

Ex*****on numbers rose in 2025, with 11 states carrying out 47 lethal injections — the highest total since 2009.

A senior administration official says the decision to secretly move President Trump out of Ankara last month was made only four or five hours before departure, after intelligence indicated an Iranian terror cell had entered Turkey with a shoulder-fired missile.

Officials also believed the group had information about the president’s movements in the city. Trump was transferred from the older Air Force One to a military aircraft using a catering container, an operation kept from the traveling press and some officials aboard the decoy flight.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were on the decoy plane, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth flew with the president. Both aircraft were escorted by F-35 fighter jets.

The White House has said the president faces ongoing threats and that every available tool is used to address them.

Nearly nine years after 27-year-old aspiring rapper Antonio Wilson was fatally shot in South Los Angeles, his family and detectives say they are still searching for answers.

Wilson was picking up dinner with a neighbor at a shopping center near Vermont Avenue and 43rd Street on Nov. 17, 2017, when a white car pulled up and someone opened fire. He was struck by multiple bullets and collapsed at the scene.

His mother, Nicole Williams, says the grief has not eased. “Every holiday, every occasion is at the cemetery,” she said. Investigators believe the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity, but security cameras did not capture the vehicle’s license plate.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with details is asked to call the LAPD anonymous tip line at 1-877-527-3247.

The family says they will continue pushing for accountability.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is planning to purchase thousands of gloves that can deliver a painful electric shock, according to a recent Department of Homeland Security notice.

The agency aims to spend up to $20 million by March on the devices, known as G.L.O.V.E. (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter). Made by Compliant Technologies, the gloves work as regular patrol gloves until a switch is activated to produce a sharp, distracting shock described as similar to a bee sting.

Officials say the tools are intended to help gain compliance from combative people, such as during removals from vehicles or inside detention facilities. Civil rights advocates have raised concerns about potential misuse and the lack of clear public oversight in immigration enforcement settings. The manufacturer advises against using them as punishment or on certain high-risk groups.

Officers would need training and periodic recertification to use the devices.

Two people are dead after a military helicopter crashed in a field in Central Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

The Apache helicopter, from the Fort Hood military installation, went down around 1:35 p.m. local time.

Both pilots on board were confirmed dead, according to a spokesman for the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews also responded to a large wildfire that was sparked by the crash.
