Campus journalists from Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) made their mark at the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2026, bagging multiple awards across categories during the three-day competition held from March 18 to 20.

The press conference, held at Baler, Aurora, gathered young campus journalists from Region III with BCNSHS delegates representing the Schools Division Office of Balanga City.
Marcus Adrian Felix led the BCNSHS winners with a 2nd place finish in Science and Technology (SciTech) Writing, coached by Ma’am Jhunaiza Santos-Argana.

Alex Sandrea Galvez also brought pride to the school after placing 3rd in Feature Writing with the guidance of Ma’am Lorena Panganiban.

Meanwhile, Mara Victoria Alcantara secured 8th place in SciTech Writing, also coached by Ma’am Jhunaiza Santos-Argana.

“I was very surprised. I didn't expect to get a place, let alone second place. After that I was incredibly happy because the hardwork me and my fellow SciTech writers in BalSci did had paid off,” Felix shared.

He added that he trained for weeks with coach Ma’am Jhunaiza, received guidance from BPSU The Guilds writers Sir Aries Oliveros and Sir Rex San Diego II, and collaborated with teammates Mara and Jasmin through shared techniques and feedback.

Marcus encouraged aspiring journalists to remain open to criticism and keep improving, noting that after five years of competing, this was his first time placing in the RSPC.

𝗗espite its reputation as an academically rigorous institution, Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) is now laying the foundation of its first official volleyball team since its establishment, following recently conducted team tryouts on March 25.

Succeeding the school’s recent advancements across categories in 2026 City Meet, anticipation for team sport representation has increased among learners, according to various aspirants.

“Since day 1, since I’m an athlete so… I finally get to represent the school in a sport that I want to play,” responded Eric Wayne Mangubat when asked about awaiting formation of similar school sport teams.

With BCNSHS teachers John Dave De Guzman and Jerald Dela Cruz overseeing the event, three matches between selected team-ups were conducted in assessing each applicants’ skillset.

According to official records, 18 total students across grades 7 to 11 took part in the initial team selections.

In ensuring academic and extracurricular balance, the following requirements were set for the aspirant screening:
* Securing of parental consent
* Student consent and declaration
* Medical information of applicant
* Academic certification of at least 90% general average and grades no less than 85%

Out of all applicants, only six will move forward as part of the team, leaving only half of 12 total slots open. The unofficial team roster includes:

𝗡aglagablab ang kaalaman ng mga Scientista nang paigtingin ng Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS), katuwang ang Batang Empowered and Resilient Team (BERT) at Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), ang kamalayan sa ‘fire safety’ sa isinagawang 'Be Fire Smart Symposium' kaugnay ng Fire Prevention Month noong Marso 23, 2026 sa covered court ng paaralan.

Sinimulan ang aktibidad sa isang maikling panalangin na pinangunahan ni Jasmin Kim Dela Cruz, pangulo ng BERT, at sinundan ng pambungad na pananalita ni Bb. Jennifer Talaugon, Asst. Principal ng BCNSHS.

Sa pangunguna ni SFO3 Jaypee Ocampo, tinalakay niya ang mga dapat gawin sakaling magkaroon ng sunog, kabilang ang paglikas, pagiging kalmado, at ang paghingi ng tulong sa mga awtoridad tulad ng BFP.

Nabanggit din niya ang tamang pag-apula ng apoy gamit ang ‘fire extinguisher’ o ibang kagamitan sa bahay tulad ng basang basahan o buhangin, sakaling wala nito.

“TPASS… T para sa twist, P ay pull o paghatak… A is aim… first S ay squeeze ng lever, at huling S para sa swing,” ayon kay Ocampo sa tamang paggamit ng fire extinguisher.

Nasabi rin niya ang mga kinakailangan para sa mga nagnanais makapasok sa ‘fire department.”

“Kailangan ninyo ng 4-year course para makapasok sa fire department at makapasa sa civil service o professional exam,” ani Ocampo.

Naidagdag din niya ang kinakailangang tangkad ng mga naghahangad na makapasok sa BFP: “5 feet para sa mga babae… 5.2 feet naman sa mga lalaki,” sabi niya.

Sa pagtatapos ng symposium, ipinakita ng mga miyembro ng BERT ang tamang paggamit ng ‘fire extinguisher’ sa mga Scientista upang maapula ang apoy.

𝗦a paglalayong makabuo ng matatag na hanay, binuksan ng Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) ang kauna-unahan nitong ‘BALSCIE Basketball Team Tryouts,’ kahapon sa multipurpose covered court ng paaralan.

Pinamunuan nina Gng. Leny Enriquez-Gerio at G. Eddison Viray ang naturang kaganapan, kung saan sumubok na lumahok ang iba’t ibang mag-aaral mula sa ikapito hanggang sa ika-11 na baitang.

“Si Jade, ang ating watchman, ang naging responsible for the selection, kasama namin siya sa selection, [kung saan] siya ang nanguna sa aktwal na [pagpili]. Siya ang nag-isip nang mga possible naming maging standard [doon],” pagsasalaysay naman ni Gerio.

Ang mga manlalarong matagumpay na mapipili ay magsisilbing kabahagi ng opisyal na hanay ng Basketball Team ng BCNSHS sa darating na taong panuruan 2026-2027.

Kaugnay nito, ibinahagi rin ni Gerio ang gampanin ng tryouts na bigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga Scientista na gamitin ang kanilang mga natututuhan sa MAPEH tungo sa pagkahasa ng kanilang galing sa pampalakasang isports.

“Ang masasabi ko lang ay marami talaga tayong students na may potensyal sa isports, kailangan lang talaga nila ay ‘yung magpupush sakanila,” giit niya.

Samantala, upang maikonsidera ang prayoridad ng pagkatuto, kinakailangang maabot ng bawat Scientista na magtatangkang mapabilang sa koponan ng BCNSHS ang 90 pataas na grado para sa bawat asignatura bilang kwalipikasyon.

Sinimulan ang tryouts sa pamamagitan ng isang warm-up bago pa man dumako ang mga mag-aaral sa aktwal na laro, kung saan tatayain ng mga hurado ang kanilang karunungan sa larangan ng basketbol.

𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬, 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 — 𝗙ormer GMA Integrated News Reporter, Nico Waje headlined Project NEWS ‘26, an intensive journalism workshop for the campus journalists of Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) on March 5, 2026.

The workshop was launched by The Alchemist advisers John Kelvin Binungcal and Aina Panganiban to train aspiring writers within the campus.

The program kicked off with opening remarks from School Principal Catherine Jongco, followed by a message of inspiration from Assistant Principal Jennifer Talaugon.

Throughout the day, participants underwent rigorous training in News and Sports Writing, as well as Radio and TV Broadcasting, as the school’s publication sought to sharpen the skills of its campus journalists.

As the guest speaker, Waje shared his expertise and pushed students to find the best angle in every story in preparation for the upcoming Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC).

“Write every day,” he reminded the participants that consistency is the foundation of good writing.

With the successful conclusion of Project NEWS ‘26, the student writers and broadcasters now move forward with the goal of BCNSHS.

𝗧he bouncing of basketballs was replaced by skillful dance moves as the grade 8 students of Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) turned the covered court into a vibrant ballroom stage on the morning of March 16, 2026.

Grade eight students from sections Alcala, Banzon and Zara performed their Latin dance as their final performance task in their MAPEH subject, under the guidance of their teacher, Ma’am Leny Enriquez.

The students showcased their 1-minute to 2-minutes long Latin dances, in which Ma’am Enriquez commended and congratulated

Each section captivated the audience with unique songs like: “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “Let’s Get Loud”, to accompany their moves.

“I really enjoyed the performance,I think we did pretty good, it was very fun, especially the Saturday practices.” said grade eight student Bruce Miguel Diwa, when asked about his experience.

As the music faded and the final steps were completed, the performance marked not just the end of a dance, but the culmination of effort, teamwork, and memories that the Grade 8 students will carry beyond their MAPEH class.

Cagayan Valley secured second place with 653 points, followed by CALABARZON with 575 points.

The next conference is set to take place in Vigan City for the first National Higher Education Press Conference (NHEPC).

Education Institution Temasek Polytechnic brought a new mathematical proficiency approach towards Balanga City National Science High School’s (BCNSHS) Grades 7 and 8 Scientistas through a Singaporean Math Training session, Tuesday, March 24.

This initiative aims to deepen learners’ conceptual understanding of math through Singapore’s structured strategic methodologies.

Through the mentioned introduction of the Singaporean approach, the training seeks to strengthen students’ analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, improving their overall math proficiency.

Student-representatives from the said tertiary institution, in collaboration with administrators from the Barangay Learning Hub (BLH) served as main facilitators of the sessions which were held from 1:00 PM until 3:30 in the afternoon.

Included in the session were a brief basic introduction of the Singaporean Mathematics Technique involving several concepts highlighting the needs of proper visualization.

“So awesome. I felt like there was a really good connection between [every] student, like they were well-bonded and easy to teach… I think overall it was a great experience,” shared TP Rep. Kelton Chin.

Aside from Chin, student-representatives Jonathan Tan Jacob and Dustin Domingo also expressed how they think the Singaporean math approach would assist students in visualizing, representing, and understanding of mathematical problems.

To conclude the training session, a quick tournament was hosted wherein several student-pairs would race to solve for the given math problem, applying the different Singaporean concepts that were discussed beforehand.

A photo opportunity was then made to capture Scientistas’ fun interaction with the volunteers, nurturing not only mathematical skills, but also socialization exchange.

When asked in an interview regarding Scientistas’ participation in the training session, Rep. Dustin provided a satisfied response: “Very participative… [Scientistas] were actually very welcoming.”

In the end, the Singaporean Math Training successfully wrapped up, meeting their objectives of improving students’ overall understanding of mathematics through an alternative approach.

Sa ilalim nito, pinagkakalooban ang pangulo ng karapatang suspendihin o 'di-kaya'y bawasan ang excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo.

Bunsod ito ng patuloy na pagsirit sa presyo ng gasolina nitong mga nakaraang linggo sanhi ng namumuong tensyon sa Gitnang Silangan.

Sa paglalayong ibsan ang epekto ng nabanggit na taas-presyo, matagumpay na inaprubahan ng Senado ang SB 12316, na ngayo'y pinirmahan na ni Marcos para sa agarang pagpapatupad.

𝗧he haunting song of the Adarna bird met the steady rhythm of "Red River Valley" on March 16 as Grade seven sections Fabella, Gomez, and Trono reimagined the Kingdom of Berbanya at the Balanga City National Science High School (BCNSHS) Covered Court.

The scholars of BCNSHS traded their textbooks for handcrafted scepters and cardboard crowns to bring the Filipino epic to life, as part of the culmination activity of the grade seven scholars in their Filipino subject.

Resourcefulness took center stage as each section utilized student-made props and recycled materials to construct the mystical landscapes of the Adarna’s mountain home.

Section Trono kicked off the dramatic proceedings followed by section Fabella, then section Gomez all emphasizing the narrative's themes of loyalty and sacrifice.

Each section concluded their set with their own rhythmic rendition of the classic folk song, “Red River Valley,” blending choral harmony with choreographed movement.

“I believe everyone was exhausted even before the actual play started, in accordance on the tight schedule to perfect the play. Beforehand, we condescended into a short prayer to guide everyone with the performance. Reprimands to classmates on how to keep their cool mid-performance was really important to keep their focus and confidence high-up,” Eman Nathan Mateo, a student of grade 7 Trono shared.

He added that, “At the dance finale, hyping them up to sing and reminding them on the days of practice, where the section created memories [were] really important to make sure they stay in the zone of the group performance.”

The event served as a vibrant display of the "Science High" spirit, proving that these academic achievers are equally adept at artistic expression and collaborative stagecraft.
