๐๐พ๐๐๐: In celebration of the 51st Nutrition Month, student class representatives, school organization officers, health professionals, nutrition advocates, and key stakeholders gathered at the Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) Gymnasium yesterday, July 15, under the theme โFood at Nutrition Security: Making Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!"
The program opened with a prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the Division Hymn, followed by a welcome address delivered by Crescente Beato, Filipino Department Head, on behalf of Dr. Hazel B. Meneses, ESNCHS Principal IV.
Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Edgar Y. Tenasas, CESO VI, extended his message of support by stressing the importance of health, mental readiness, and discipline among the youth, reminding them to avoid vices and take responsibility for their future.
โNot only are you the future of the city, you are the future of your family,โ Tenasas said.
Following this, Jassie Acla-Alegre, City Nutrition Action Officer, delivered the Nutrition Month talking points, highlighting the urgency of ensuring that food is accessible, affordable, safe, and nutritious for all, reinforcing the idea that โfood is a right, not a privilege,โ and calling for collective action in combating malnutrition in the community.
In between segments, Grade 10 Science Technology and Engineering student Charisse Alde and former Special Program in the Arts students showcased performances through intermission numbers, while students also had the opportunity to participate in ongoing health assessment consultations such as Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure checks.
In addition, Kristina Jane Abayan, Nutrition Officer of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, discussed โPinggang Pinoyโ as a teen-friendly food guide, after which Atty. Celestino Cabato, representing City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda, delivered a call to action urging the youth to live healthily and contribute to a nourished Borongan.
To conclude the program, the 2025 Nutrition Month Pledge was led by Ms. Alegre, with closing remarks shared by Dr. Patricia Bernadette O. Apita, Borongan City Health Officer, who expressed her gratitude and called on everyone to sustain these health efforts beyond the celebration.
