‎La Trinidad, Benguet — The Kalinga team made a strong run in the Secondary Boys 5v5 Basketball tournament of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Meet (CARAA) 2026, with Saint Paul’s Memorial School of Kalinga Inc. (SPMSKI) students Ariel Tangbawan and Reiven Rivera playing throughout the campaign.

‎The Kalinga team suffered a heavy loss, in their opening game against the Baguio team, 56–115. With their semifinal hopes on the line, the team returned to the court determined to stay alive in the tournament.
‎
‎Kalinga then faced Ifugao in a must-win match, securing a narrow victory, 69–67, which earned them a spot in the semifinals under the tournament’s system, where the top teams advance based on overall results.
‎
‎In the semifinals, the Kalinga team met the Baguio team again in the battle for third place. It was a hard-fought game from start to finish. Kalinga kept the score close, but the Baguio team pulled away late to win, 80–90.
‎
‎Despite the loss, reaching the semifinals was a strong achievement for the Kalinga team. Tangbawan and Rivera stood out with their steady play, effort, and teamwork, helping keep the team competitive in every game.
‎
‎ Their performance not only strengthened the Kalinga team’s campaign but also brought pride to the walls of SPMSKI, proving that the school continues to develop disciplined and determined student-athletes.
‎
‎Kalinga Team may have fallen short of the finals, but their semifinal finish at CARAA 2026 shows the heart and fight of the team on the regional stage in Benguet.

The cultural piece, directed by Ms. Ferlina Maglia Meana and musically arranged by Ms. Geralyn Maglia Paganao, was a highlight of the 31st Kalinga Founding Anniversary and the 7th Bodong Festival kickoff.

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Answering the call of the Balbalan Local Government Unit, students from St. Paul’s Memorial School of Kalinga Inc. (SPMSKI) and some schools across the municipality came together to proudly represent Balbalan at the grand kickoff of the 31st Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 7th Bodong Festival.

Taking the stage at Capitol Hills in Bulanao, the group presented a cultural piece titled "The Early Life of Our Ancestors." Guided by the provincial theme “Naindaklan a Kultura, Isu’t Bilog ti Kalinga,” the Balbalan delegates offered the audience a rare window into the history of the yBalbalan people.

Through a blend of songs, chants, dances, and drama, the performers brought their ancestors' stories to life, honoring the resilience and survival skills that have defined their community through the ages which served as a moving tribute to the province's enduring heritage.

The production’s creative vision was brought to life by Ms. Ferlina Maglia Meana, a teacher at Salegseg Primary School. An active member of both the United Artists of Kalinga and the Balbalan Culture and Arts Council, Ms. Meana wore many hats as the scriptwriter, dance choreographer, and composer of the finale song.

Completing the artistic team was Ms. Geralyn Maglia Paganao, a teacher at Balantoy Elementary School. As the Musical Trainer for Balbalan Performing Arts, Ms. Paganao guided the musical direction and arrangements, ensuring every note perfectly supported the story being told on stage.

Today, the SPMSKI community bids a farewell to Mrs. Viccy Harper, who is beginning her journey back to Australia.

For years, Mr. Richard Harper and Mrs. Viccy Harper have been one of the silent strengths behind the school, always supporting it in its every need. However, their visit this week gave something more valuable and worth remembering than financial aid—it gave the community the gift of their presence at the school and at the barangay and patronal fiesta and, most especially, the centennial celebration of St. Paul's Parish.

The highlight of their visit was undoubtedly the personal connection they built with the students and the actual visit of the structures they helped build.
Just recently, Mrs. Harper took the time to have meaningful verbal interactions with the scholars they sponsor, listening to their hopes and sharing her wisdom. She offered them a jumpstart to their future, providing advice that will guide them long after she has returned home.

In a touching return of love, the students presented Mrs. Viccy with handwritten appreciation letters. These letters were small tokens of the gratitude they feel, filled with words of thanks for the opportunities she and Mr. Harper have opened for them. It was a beautiful moment of exchange—wisdom passed down and gratitude passed back.

As she leaves, she leaves with hope. As always, she has promised to improve and renovate the school’s facade, making the campus more appealing and welcoming, along with a promise to do much more for the facilities.

To understand their impact, one only needs to look around the campus. SPMSKI is proud to acknowledge that Mr. Richard and Mrs. Viccy were one of the key reasons behind the successful construction and completion of the new SPMSKI Multipurpose Building, which was then the alumni hall and science laboratory—demolished due to safety reasons. They were also the backbone of the almost 11-year-old senior high building.
These structures stand tall today as a testament to their unwavering generosity and their desire to provide the best facilities for our community.

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Harper, for building not just a school, but a family. Safe travels to both! We will miss you dearly.

In response to the call of the Prime Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the Philippines, the Most Rev. Nestor Poltic Sr., St. Paul's Memorial School of Kalinga Inc., students and faculty gathered as one to perform an anti-corruption movement, demonstrating a collective call for full investigation, accountability and restitution for the misuse of public funds.

The event also serves a solemn reminder of the ongoing environmental and social challenges we face, exacerbated by corruption, and will include prayers for our nation as it continues to recover from the devastating effects of natural disasters.

Participants marched around the campus ground wearing white shirts and carrying banners--symbol of integrity, transparency, unity and hope.

Paulinians continue to stand firm in truth, integrity and service--reminding us that the fight against corruption begins with each one of us. With their voices raised as one, they pledge to remain vigilant, compassionate, and committed to build a better nation for future generation.
