I can’t believe it’s still necessary to remind people that Jesus is the reason for the season—but apparently, it is. Many of us have forgotten that He truly is.

We’ve become so focused on how we look, how our celebrations appear, the gifts we receive, and the gifts we give, even the problems we have on a daily, that we’ve lost sight of why we greet each other with “Merry Christmas” in the first place. The Hope and security it bears for eternity. We should be rejoicing because our salvation is secure—because a child was born unto us, born to die.

Jesus came to this world to die for our sins. Is that a cause for celebration? Yes. But when we forget that this is the gift, we miss the very heart of Christmas. The real gift was given to us over 2,000 years ago, in a manger in Bethlehem.

Christmas is not for show. Christmas is the remembrance that Christ was born to die for humanity—and raised to rule for eternity. We are saved because of prophecies spoken by many Old Testament prophets, proclaiming that the Messiah would be born of a virgin and laid in a manger.

And yet, we’ve forgotten.

So yes—it looks like we still need the reminder:

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jesus truly is the reason for the season. 🤍

Just as King David instructed his heart to praise God, so will I.
