ASU-Banga alumni presents study at National Marine Science Symposium
Fresh graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) presented their research at the 18th National Symposium on Marine Science with the theme โOceans Crossroad: Integrating Science, Policy, and Action for Philippine Seasโ
held at the University of the Philippines Cebu, July 10-12.
Earl Vincent Icaca, Chloe Bryan Macavinta, Reynaljon Emperado, Justine Valentin, and Trimuel Zubiaga, graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Biology Major in Ecology, showcased their research titled โAbundance, Distribution, and Diversity of Ichthyoplankton in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Island, Philippinesโ and was advised by Mr. Carlo Gregorio and Ms. Elize Margareth Sibulan, with support from Dr. Cristy Acabado, Principal Investigator of the Planktoniche Laboratory.
The study examined how fish eggs and larvae respond to pelagic environmental conditions, aiming to contribute to science-based marine resource management
โThere is still a lack of research on ichthyoplankton in the Philippines. We hope our work encourages more studies in this area and receives proper support and funding,โ said Zubiaga.
The event was organized by the Philippine Association of Marine Science (PAMS), promoting marine science in the country and supporting the role of Filipino scientists in advancing knowledge on tropical marine ecosystems.
