The publication maintains its online web presence, published news, articles, and graphic content weekly, to update its academic community like never before. It has been recognized and produced award-winning journalists in the Region over the past decades. We even pushed our growing capabilities to redefine our generation. We've taken a huge leap to introduce a new breakthrough in the publication taking further our studentry to a more immersive and dynamic platform โ€” telling them stories through their gadgets with the most powerful digital publishing tool. Amidst a media environment besets with constant state of flux and constraints, the Eamigas is committed to remain the beacon of news and information, delivering responsible journalism to ASUians and the community. In the age of proliferation of information, its new mission is to let today's generation be fully informed, updated, and involved.

Fresh graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) presented their research at the 18th National Symposium on Marine Science with the theme โ€œOceans Crossroad: Integrating Science, Policy, and Action for Philippine Seasโ€
held at the University of the Philippines Cebu, July 10-12.

Earl Vincent Icaca, Chloe Bryan Macavinta, Reynaljon Emperado, Justine Valentin, and Trimuel Zubiaga, graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Biology Major in Ecology, showcased their research titled โ€œAbundance, Distribution, and Diversity of Ichthyoplankton in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Island, Philippinesโ€ and was advised by Mr. Carlo Gregorio and Ms. Elize Margareth Sibulan, with support from Dr. Cristy Acabado, Principal Investigator of the Planktoniche Laboratory.

The study examined how fish eggs and larvae respond to pelagic environmental conditions, aiming to contribute to science-based marine resource management

โ€œThere is still a lack of research on ichthyoplankton in the Philippines. We hope our work encourages more studies in this area and receives proper support and funding,โ€ said Zubiaga.

The event was organized by the Philippine Association of Marine Science (PAMS), promoting marine science in the country and supporting the role of Filipino scientists in advancing knowledge on tropical marine ecosystems.

๐—ข๐—ฃ๐—œ๐—ก๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก: There is a cruel irony in birthdays.

It's when the world demands certainty at the exact moment life feels most abstract. Growing older is often seen as a part where weโ€™re expected to have direction, to chart a course, to start moving with purpose.

But internally, many of us are standing at the edge, unsure if weโ€™re walking into liberation or simply deeper confusion. We are told to take charge, but few dare to admit the obvious: that most of us are walking into the future with no assuranceโ€”only pressure, and no choice but to go forward.

Personally, I donโ€™t find birthdays to be celebrations of milestones; rather, they often feel like confrontationsโ€”a harsh reminder that no, I still donโ€™t have everything figured out.

And for firstborns like myself, uncertainty doesn't just live in our heads; it arrives as lived pressure and responsibility. It comes bearing the weight of unspoken hopes from our families, passed down to us in silence.

In a culture like ours, being the firstborn is not symbolicโ€”it is structural. We are the models, the wayfinders, the ones expected to carry our families out of poverty.

We are not just choosing a life; we are negotiating one on behalf of an entire bloodline. And though the words are rarely spoken aloud, we feel it in every anxious glance, every forced smile, every โ€œKaya mo โ€™yanโ€ that really means, โ€œPlease donโ€™t fail us.โ€

Weโ€™re growing up in a time like no otherโ€”where the economy falters day by day, climate change accelerates, and politics plays out like a circus. Thereโ€™s an impending nuclear fallout with the push of a button, and job markets that treat us as disposable. And yet we are expected to march forward with confidence, to be hopeless romantics manifesting success as if nothing could possibly go wrong.

One is not born, said Simone de Beauvoir, but rather becomes. Becoming is an active process; it is shaped by contradiction, time, failure, and choice. Yet our capitalist society has little patience for that. It wants immediacy. It wants performance. In the age of optimization, uncertainty has become taboo.

And so, these days, to admit that weโ€™re unsure of our future becomes a radical act. To say, โ€œI donโ€™t know yet,โ€ is a statement of rebellion. But Iโ€™ll say it anyway: I donโ€™t know exactly what the universe has for me in store, and I refuse to be ashamed of that.

Because growing up as a dreamer isnโ€™t about having it all figured out. Itโ€™s about learning to live in the tension, to carry the weight without being crushed by it, to move forward even when the path is blurry. Itโ€™s about daring to live authentically and unapologetically defy the cruel destiny the world has written for us.

Especially for those of us who are the first to dream this loudlyโ€”eldest siblings, children of sacrifice and investmentโ€”we deserve a space to be fragile: to pause, to bleed, to cry, to hope, and to start again.

We may never know exactly where the universe intends to take us, but I refuse to believe that our doubts and uncertainties make us any less than we are.

As Henry David Thoreau once wrote in Walden, โ€œI went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately.โ€ Perhaps that, above all, is the most courageous act: to live deliberatelyโ€”not in spite of doubt, but in acceptance of it as part of becoming.
