Princess Angelique Biscarra, a STEM strand Senior High School graduate of Divine Word College of Bangued (DWCB), is among the latest qualifiers of the Department of Science and Technology โ Science Education Instituteโs (DOST-SEI) Merit Scholarship.
She is one of only six qualifiers from the Province of Abra, and one of 163 from the entire Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to pass the highly competitive exam.
With 95,564 examinees nationwide across 215 testing centers, the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship is considered one of the most sought-after academic grants in the country. It covers full tuition, provides monthly stipends, transportation and book allowances, and support for thesis, uniforms, and graduation costs.
The DOST exam was very difficult,โ Biscarra shared. โAnd the fact that I qualified under Merit, where no financial background is considered and itโs purely based on score, made it even more overwhelming. Iโve been hard on myself these past years, so passing this felt like a kind of validation I never realized I needed.โ
Despite falling ill before the exam and dealing with personal challenges, she pushed through. โI took the exam purely on faith and sheer will,โ she recalled.
For other students who aspire to become DOST scholars, she offered this message: โPrepare as much as you can because the exam is truly challenging but most importantly, never let self-doubt stop you. Keep fighting, keep trying, and most of all, have faith in yourself and God.โ
Biscarra is set to begin her college journey this academic year, bringing pride not only to DWCB but also to the local community of San Juan.
