Launching, and retrieval/recovery of lifeboats.
1. Pre-Drill Preparation
-Safety briefing and muster of all participants.
-Confirm weather and sea conditions are safe.
-Check lifeboat equipment, engine oil level, fuel, and safety gear.
-Confirm that communication between the bridge and boat station is established.
2. Lowering the Lifeboat
-Crew don lifejackets and helmets.
-Remove gripes and safety pins.
-Open the lifeboat hatch and secure painter line (if applicable).
-Release brake and lower the lifeboat gradually to embarkation deck level.
-Embark designated crew into the lifeboat.
-Continue lowering the lifeboat into the water under control.
3. Waterborne Operation
-Start the lifeboat engine once afloat.
-Move the lifeboat a safe distance from the ship
-Conduct maneuvering tests (forward, reverse, turning).
-Check communication and simulate rescue or search patterns if required.
4. Recovery Procedure
-Bring lifeboat back alongside the ship.
-Secure the lifeboat to the davit hooks.
-Gradually hoist the lifeboat back to stowed position, ensuring even lifting.
-Secure all safety pins, gripes, and covers.
5. Post-Drill Actions
-Debriefing to discuss performance and lessons learned.
-Record the drill in the ship’s logbook and safety records.
-Report any maintenance needs.
