With exciting events that highlighted our city's rich culture and indigenous skills, the City of Batac proudly commemorated Tourism Month 2025. The festivities culminated in a wonderful Tourism Night, which featured enthralling performances by the Salinong Chorale and Banduria Ensemble of the City of Batac National High School-Poblacion.

The evening also featured the Batakkenak Batac Film Festival, which showcased the city's unique tourism destinations through the eyes of local storytellers; a vibrant Folk Dance Competition that brought Ilocano traditions to life; and the Ilocano Fashion Show, which celebrated creativity and heritage.

The celebrations culminated with the awarding of the Batac Culinary Challenge, which highlighted the city's pride—the distinctive Batac Empanada—as well as the many events throughout the night.

It was a night that beautifully captured what Batac stands for: rich culture, creative expression, and the warm hospitality that make our city truly one of a kind.

This ensemble reimagines traditional Ilocano attire through contemporary silhouettes and vibrant local textiles. Using checkered patterns and woven fabrics, the designs highlight the beauty of abel Iloco—a symbol of craftsmanship, resilience, and cultural pride. The striking orange accents add a modern touch, creating a vivid contrast that pays homage to both heritage and innovation.

Each piece reflects the balance between functionality and artistry found in Ilocano life. The structured tops and flowing bottoms evoke the harmony between strength and grace, while traditional accessories like the farmer’s hat and embroidered overlay connect the collection to its rural roots. Together, they celebrate the enduring spirit of Ilocos—grounded in tradition, yet forward-looking in style.

This look draws inspiration from the agricultural traditions and resourceful spirit of the Ilocano people. The design features locally woven fabrics, natural fibers, and earthy tones that echo the textures of rural life. Each piece pays homage to the craftsmanship and resilience of farmers and artisans whose daily labor sustains both community and culture.

The gourd, once a vessel for water or harvest, and the handwoven bag serve as symbols of practicality and creativity — everyday items transformed into art. Through this modern interpretation, the ensemble reimagines Ilocano heritage as wearable storytelling, blending function, tradition, and contemporary design in one cohesive expression of identity.

Batacqueños are known to be creative, innovative, hardworking, and pragmatic. And on top of these, Batacqueños are deeply religious.

This collection is inspired by the Immaculate Conception... the colors used are white, navy blue, and maroon - reminiscent of the religious icons in an altar. Moreover, these colors are reflective of Batacqueños leaning toward subtlety and simplicity.

The girl is wearing a three-piece ensemble -- white hooded capelet, white kimona, and maroon and navy blue skirt.
The white hooded capelet and the white kimona embody the purity and modesty of the Batacqueña/Ilocana. While the patterned and color blocked skirt is symbolic of her industry and bravery.

The boy, on the other hand, is garbed in a three-piece ensemble too -- a white hooded capelet, a maroon topper and a navy blue patterned trousers. The white hooded capelet and the cross-patterned topper are testaments to the Batacqueños/Ilocanos affinity to the Divine. And the trousers signify his pragmatism, industry and resiliency.

“Agani ti Bagas nga Diket.”

This collection is inspired not only by rice flour, a key ingredient of the iconic Ilocos Empanada, but also by the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our beloved farmers. They are the true nurturers of our land, providing us with abundance that sustains our families and strengthens our communities.

Through this work, it honors their sacrifices and celebrates the vital role they play in our everyday lives, and is equally grateful to the warm and supportive community of the City of Batac, whose culture, traditions, and spirit of unity continue to inspire and uplift the designer. This collection serves as a small tribute to both our farmers and the people of Batac, who together embody the essence of resilience, generosity, and shared progress.
