Collaboration: The Key to New Normal Education

The New Normal way of Education is really a big challenge for both teachers, parents and learners. The ultimate goal of providing quality education among our learners is a collaborative effort between parents and teachers especially in this time of pandemic.

The start of School year 2020-2021 in Libjo Elementary School, seemed to be an experimental with lots of questions. Modular Distance Learning has been chosen as the Learning Modality to be used. Orientation has been conducted to disseminate the basic information to parents and to assure their active involvement.

Parents are considered as our first teachers. In this New normal way of education they play a vital role as learning facilitator. They provide positive influence, inspiration and motivation to their children. They also organize the routine task to make them well organized in their everyday lesson.

Getting modules and regular coordinating with teachers regarding lessons to be taught was another important task of parents. In performing this tasks observing health and safety protocols in going to school has always been an important agenda.

Hence, collaboration between parents and teachers is really the key in providing quality basic education to our pupils especially in this time of pandemic.

LES implements heightened health protocols

Libjo Elementary School implemented a hightened health protocol for parents and teachers with the help of the PTA officers during the start of School Year 2021-2022.
Foot baths, alcohol stands and health declaration forms are provided to assure the safety of parents and teachers. Covid Reports are checked weekly to monitor the cases in the place. PTA officers are also in their posts to check on parents attire and the proper wearing of facemask and face shield.
Teachers are required to have a barrier for safer face to face discussion among concerned parents. The new normal has really taken over the usual means of communication among parents and teachers. But Libjo Elementary School still try its best to accommodate queries of parents without the fright of getting the virus.

“Angry No More”

“Selpon ka ng selpon hindi ka na makatulong dito sa bahay!” This is the infamous tagline of my mother as she scolds me while she’s busy doing the laundry. Where am I? Here at the sofa taking a selfie and trying to post it on my timeline. That was me a year ago, before the start of the school year.
You may ask, what happened after the delivery of my mother’s tagline a year ago. Well here I am, still enjoying the comfort of our sofa with my phone in my hand. But the best part is, I am not being scolded anymore. Why? Because now, my phone is my partner in my daily class schedule.
Due to the demand of the Department of Education to conduct online turuan as part of the blended learning, our smartphones gained the very crucial role of making connection to our teachers. Parents are the one assigned to go to school, get our modules and deliver the answered activities. Since we cannot go to school and attend classes, our teachers send google meet link in our group chats and schedule our online turuan which is my very anticipated moment for the week.
I am very excited every time we receive the link since I’ve got to see some of my classmates as well as our teachers. I can easily answer the activities in my modules since our teacher discussed the topic effectively. My mother who used to have a frowning face every time she saw me using my phone transformed into a smiling face, amazed by the new strategy of delivering learning to students like me.

A Glimpse of Light

A child’s dream is the window of the future. Now that the world is slowly healing itself, a glimpse of hope and light shone upon our eyes. Showing the path that we should take to conquer the shadows of the COVID 19 pandemic. But can we really make it? Can we still be the vision of the future?
The doors of social gatherings and leisure events has been shut to our grasps after the spreading of the virus. We cannot easily enjoy the company of our friends because we are afraid of getting caught by covid. Moreover, schools became a dream destination to every child like me since it became a restricted area for us.
Now that the restriction in our area somehow lessened, a beam of progress has been visible to everyone else. Malls welcomed children as if they were missed for a century. Loved ones far away became reachable for the meantime but gatherings are still considering health protocols.
At present, we can see the light of the day outside, with the assurance of safety with our masks. Intrigued by the society after the lockdown, we can now experience what adults has experienced during the day of a new normal. We are looking forward to a brighter light of progress not only in our area, but also in the whole world.
I am a child of dreams, a window of the future. Nothing can beat this vision, even the pandemic. Now that a huge difference in the situation is visible, we are still hoping that the virus will be eliminated so that a child like me can enjoy the life of the normal that we use to live.
