Genesis 4:1-18
"The First Murder"
"The Bible is filled with stories of people who do great things for one another, and it also tells people who do awful things to one another."
Today's story show's us what happens when we look to our own self-interests instead of practicing love.
Cain and Abel was the son of Adam and Eve. Cain is a farmer while Abel was a herdsman. Time passed. Cain brought offering to God from the produce of his farm. Abel also brought an offering, but from the firstborn animals of his herd, choice cuts of meat. God liked Abel and his offering, but Cain and his offering didn't get his approval. Cain lost his temper and went into a sulk.
God spoke to Cain: "Why this tantrum? Why the sulking? If you do well, won't you be accepted? And if you don't do well, sin is lying in wait for you, ready to pounce; it's out to get you, you've got to master it."
One day, they were out in the field, Cain came at Abel his brother and killed him.
The difference between Cain and Abel didn't have much to do with what offering they brought. God was more concerned with their hearts.
Sin causes us to focus on ourselves, but God desires people to focus on Him and to walk in His ways.
