๐๐๐๐: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in coordination with partner agencies and local government units, continues its monitoring, assessment, and response operations following multiple vessel agrounding incidents in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, and Looc Bay, Romblon.
BARGE JULIENNE, BARGE BIG JOY, BARGE BIG GLORY
The Maritime Safety Services Unit โ Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL) will conduct investigation and onboard assessment to determine any possible damages to the vessels. PCG divers conducted underwater inspections on barges Big Glory, Big Joy, and Julienne. The team reported no visible damage and all hull breaches. Meanwhile divers from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and PNP Maritime Group (MARIG) surveyed the seabed where Barges Big Joy and Julienne ran aground.
MTUG Brave successfully initiated extraction operations on Barge Big Joy which was safely pulled away from the shoreline of Brgy. Tabinay and moored alongside Barge Big Glory and MTUG Action.
MV JUNE ASTER
CGSS Puerto Galera has implemented the extraction order, alongside MARINAโs suspension of the vesselโs Cargo Ship Safety Certificate. MSSU-STL has completed an initial interview and will board the vessel for further evaluation. Towing operations for the vessel will commence upon arrival of motor tug which is expected to arrive on 29 September 2025. Meanwhile, PCG divers, MENRO, and PNP MARIG divers are set to conduct underwater and seabed inspections at the grounding site.
MV BINIBINING CORON, MV FASTCAT M7
In Looc Bay, Romblon, two vessels that had run aground were successfully extracted. CGSS Looc confirmed that no traces or signs of oil spill were observed in the surrounding waters. The station also coordinated directly with the Local Government Unit to request technical support for the scheduled joint assessment on 29 September 2025. This evaluation will focus on identifying potential environmental and structural impacts resulting from the grounding incident, including damage to coral reefs, the seabed, and nearby coastal facilities.
Moreover, the vessels were subjected to MARINA inspection beforehand to ensure their seaworthiness, prioritizing the safety of lives, property, and the environment.
The PCG assures the public that all necessary precautionary and safety measures are being enforced to prevent environmental damage and ensure maritime safety in the affected areas.
