This theme highlights the harsh truth that disasters affect everyone; they disproportionately impact the most vulnerable members of our society. It's our collective responsibility to bridge this gap and ensure that our efforts to reduce disaster risk are fair and accessible to all, without leaving anyone behind.
In a world where inequalities are on the rise, we have a chance to reshape the story. In order for everyone to survive, adapt, and thrive in the face of difficulties, everyone must be on an equal footing in the future. This is what resilience essentially entails. It entails challenging the status quo norms and dismantling barriers that aggravate the harm that disasters do to underprivileged communities. We are aware that inequality affects more than simply the economy; it also takes into account factors like gender, age, ability, and access to opportunities. In order to build a future that is better able to handle problems, it is essential to face this issue head-on because it is ingrained in the very fabric of our communities.
As we celebrate the International Day for Disaster Reduction, let's not forget that genuine resilience means ensuring no one gets left behind. The goal is to create a society where everyone can survive the worst circumstances and help to create a better future. Together, we can address the problem of inequality, embrace the challenge, and work to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for all.
