s. Pahayagang Balikas is a community newspaper, covering community and environmental issues circulating around the Southern Tagalog. First published as a monthly community newspaper in Mauban, Quezon in March 1996. Primarily published in Filipino [while, there are occasional articles in English] as an advocacy of the first publishers - Malou Babilonia and David Pollard, Filipino-Americans who established the non-government organization Babilonia-Wilner Foundation (BWF). The name BALIKAS is derived from two Filipino words "balik" and "likas". “Balikas” thus connotes the advocacy to bring back to nature (“pagbabalik sa kalikasan”). Pahayagang Balikas gives more emphasis on environmental concerns and the efforts of both the public and private sector on the ecology, business and community living. After 18 long years, Pahayagang Balikas is now owned and managed by PAHAYAGANG BALIKAS, INC., a stock corporation duly organized and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with Company Registration No. CS201401804. The paper exercises complete independence and has never been owned nor been subservient to any political party. How to reach us. MANILA, Philippines — There was a time when the price of rice in the Philippines followed a predictable rhythm, but today, both the people who grow the staple and those who eat it find themselves at the mercy of a volatile market. Seeking to restore balance, major agricultural groups recently gathered at the House of Representatives to champion a legislative rescue mission: restoring the market intervention powers of the National Food Authority (NFA).

EX-SENATE SEC. MENDOZA DENIES LINK TO CHACHA MOVE

Former Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza vehemently denied allegations of attending meetings purportedly designed to plan moves to change the Constitution.

In his official statement posted in his social media account, Mendoza said that he “have been made aware that my name was mentioned in the now-withdrawn and baseless propaganda video released by Senator Imee Marcos.”

“As a public servant who has served both Houses of Congress - as Secretary-General of the House of Representatives and as Senate Secretary - I have always carried out my duties with utmost integrity, professionalism, and respect for the institutions I served,” he continued.

MendoZa has also served as Congressman of the 4th District of Batangas before he was named SecGen of the lower house.

“Meeting with colleagues, friends, and fellow public servants outside official settings should not be maliciously construed as wrongdoing. Open dialogue and the exchange of ideas are natural and necessary in a democratic society.
For the record, I vehemently deny any involvement in any effort related to charter change, nor have I ever supported such a move.
Throughout my years in government, I remain committed to serving the Filipino people with honesty, dignity, and fidelity to the public trust that has been entrusted to me,” the Batangueño statesman said.|
