MPOX IS SPREADING: A GROWING CONCERN WE MUST ADDRESS
Recent reports have confirmed 38 Mpox cases just for the month of
May, bringing the total to 911 cases in the Philippines from 2024
up to the present. These cases are no longer distant—they are
occurring in areas not far from us, and this rising trend deserves
our full attention.
Mpox is a viral illness that causes painful rashes, blisters, and often
leaves permanent scars. What makes it more alarming is that, as of
now, there is NO available vaccine and NO specific treatment in the
Philippines. That means prevention and early detection are our
strongest defenses.
Carriers may not show symptoms immediately, which increases the
risk of silent transmission—especially in crowded public areas like
markets, schools, and public transport.
As a community, we must take proactive steps to prevent the
spread:
✅ Avoid close physical contact unless absolutely necessary
✅ Do not share personal items such as towels, utensils, or clothing
✅ Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces (phones, doorknobs, tables)
✅ Isolate anyone showing symptoms like fever and rashes
✅ Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms occur
We live in a connected city, and with that closeness comes a shared responsibility. Let’s act now—not out of fear, but out of care. By staying informed and taking action, we can protect our families, friends, and our entire community.
