The Department of Tourism Region 8 (DOT8) conducted the two-day Gender Sensitivity Training for Tourism Officers on 5โ6 August 2026 at Radiant Hotel, Tacloban City, gathering 41 Tourism Officers from across Eastern Visayas.
The training was facilitated by Ms. Jemelle Zamora-Milanes, Gender Specialist of Gender and Development Management Consultancy Services, who led the participants through the Gender Profile of Philippine Tourism, fundamental concepts of Gender and Development (GAD), and relevant laws and policies that guide gender mainstreaming in government programs and public service delivery.
Through meaningful discussions, a Gallery Walk on Gender Issues in Tourism, and workshops on developing and assessing gender-responsive tourism projects, participants examined gender-related concerns and explored practical ways of integrating gender perspectives into tourism planning and community-based initiatives.
The activity culminated in a Commitment Setting session, where participants identified concrete actions that can be applied to their respective tourism programs and communities.
