When Aegon Targaryen first landed in Westeros, he built a simple wooden fortress on the highest hill beside the Blackwater Rush. This stronghold, called Aegonfort, became the first seat of his power.

Here the defeated lords came to kneel before the dragonlord. Their swords were laid at his feet, but Aegon did not destroy them. Instead, he raised them up and confirmed their lands and titles, beginning the rule of House Targaryen in Westeros.

Inside the timber hall of Aegonfort, the Conqueror formed the first council of his new kingdom. Daemon Velaryon commanded the royal fleet, Triston Massey oversaw the laws of the realm, and Crispian Celtigar guarded the crown’s wealth.

But the most important appointment was yet to come.

Aegon raised his closest companion in war, Orys Baratheon, and declared him his shield, his stalwart, and his strong right hand — the first Hand of the King.

Thus began the royal court of the Targaryen dynasty.

The first true resistance to Aegon’s invasion came from Lord Darklyn of Duskendale and Lord Mooton of Maidenpool.

With three thousand men, they marched to drive the Targaryens back into the sea — but dragonfire and steel ended their rebellion in a single devastating battle.

After their fall, Duskendale’s wealth flowed into the coffers of the Conqueror.

This was only the beginning of the Conquest.

After landing at the Blackwater Rush, Aegon and his sisters began securing Westeros.

Rosby submitted peacefully.

Stokeworth burned beneath Vhagar’s flames.

And at Duskendale, the first major battle of the Conquest was fought.

This is the rise of the Dragonlords.

Before the dragons came, Harren the Black ruled the Riverlands with iron cruelty.

Harrenhal rose beside the Gods Eye — a fortress meant to defy all enemies.

Fearing Harren’s growing power, Argilac the Storm King made a desperate move — offering his daughter and lands to Aegon Targaryen.

A marriage proposal that would change the fate of Westeros.

Before Aegon’s Conquest, one king still stood proud in the east — Argilac Durrandon of Storm’s End.

A warrior who defeated Dornish invaders, fought in Essos, and slew the King of the Reach.

But even the strongest kings cannot fight time.

This is the rise and decline of the last Storm King.

Before Aegon’s Conquest, Westeros was fractured into seven rival kingdoms — each ruled by powerful dynasties and locked in constant war.

From Harren the Black in the Riverlands to Argilac the Arrogant at Storm’s End, the stage was already set for conquest.

This is Westeros before the dragons came.
