When Advice Feels Heavy
There are moments when we open up, not to be told what to do, but simply to be held in prayer.
I had one of those moments—shared something heavy, hoping to be heard. But the response I got?
Advice. Solutions. “You should…”
It wasn’t said to hurt me. In fact, it was said with love. But it made my heart heavier.
It reminded me of Job. When he was in deep grief, his friends came—but instead of comforting him, they started giving opinions. And yet Job said:
“A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends, even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.” – Job 6:14
Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is sit with someone in their pain without fixing it.
If you’re reading this and someone you love is going through something—pause. Before you advise, listen. Before you respond, pray.
And if you’re the one carrying something heavy today, know this:
God sees your burden, and He is not standing at a distance giving advice—He is near, holding your heart.
You are not alone.
