Came across News5 post where Journalist Gretchen Ho commended Mark Andrew Ortiz, one of their cameramen suddenly became the newscaster himself.

Ho wrote in her X post “Where else do you see a cameraman reporting?! Proud of our multi-talented Mark Andrew Ortiz! He can shoot, photograph, fly a drone, edit stories, and also report?! Kasamahan namin ‘to sa West Philippine Sea! Tunay na matapang,”

Sa amin din po, mga DevCom, opo! This story made me truly proud as a Development Communication faculty member—and for all our DevCom students who are often trained to become a “one-man team” or “jack of all trades.” 🫡

We do the grounding, capture videos and photos, plan and write our own scripts and storyboards, edit our write-ups, video documentaries and photos, narrate our own stories, and produce & publish our outputs through various platforms such as our social media pages, NWSSU 89.5 FM Kauswagan Radio , NWSSU Pro-DevCom Society, SAMARYANA, and NWSSU Development Communication .

Most of the time, we get invalidated or overlooked, but there’s nothing wrong with being proud of our craft—because what we do takes heart, skill, and dedication. 💛

Tunay na DevCom—resourceful, creative, and committed to telling stories that inspire and make a difference. ✨
