The Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) Office is proud to announce a significant milestone: the successful commercialization of the "Roasted Cacao Bean Breaker and Nib Shell Separator". This achievement, which marks the second technology successfully commercialize by NVSU, was celebrated with a ceremonial Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) signing on October 9, 2025.
The event was one of the highlights of the 2025 Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week held at NVSU in Bayombong, underscoring the university's commitment to translating research into practical solutions for the community.
The Cacao Machine, designed by Engr. June C. Quipo from the College of Engineering, is a practical, locally-designed solution intended to boost the efficiency and quality of local cacao processing.
The technology's transition to commercial production was formalized through a partnership with ACT (Machineries and Metal Craft) Corporation, the official licensee. The TLA was signed by NVSU President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr. and ACT President/CEO Mr. Ronie R. Marcos, cementing a genuine collaboration aimed at making this valuable equipment accessible to the cacao industry.
This success is a testament to the focused efforts of the entire technology transfer ecosystem, both within NVSU and with our partners.
We extend our sincere thanks to the IPTBM Office, led by Dr. Sony Aquino, for facilitating the crucial Intellectual Property application. The groundwork for commercialization, including the development of the Pre-commercialization Reports, was meticulously handled by the team, which includes Ms. Flormelyn D. Tumenez.
Further support was provided by the NVSU Sabatan Technopreneurs Hub, headed by Dr. Cristina R. Salvosa, through essential incubation activities. We especially thank Engr. Mark Gil S. Hizon for encouraging the IPTBM Office to select technology to undergo the Fairness Opinion Board (FOB) evaluation, a crucial step in the commercialization process.
Crucially, huge thanks are also given to the DOST Regional Office 02, headed by Regional Director Dr. Virginia G. Bilgera, through their TECHGROW project for the financial assistance provided for the FOB (Fairness Opinion Board).
Finally, we recognize the vital external and internal coordination that streamlined the final adoption process: Ms. Jenny Rose S. Masocol, Project Technical Assistant of the TECHGROW project, and Mr. Eduard P. Bragado, Project Technical Assistant of the IP-TBM Office, for their dedicated roles in processing the necessary technology transfer documents.
The commercialization of the Cacao Machine strengthens NVSU's role as an engine for regional economic growth and demonstrates the powerful impact of a collaborative approach to innovation.
