HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT PROFILE OF RADIO JOHN, BINALBAGAN

Building and maintaining a communication system in the Municipality of Binalbagan, a land area profile that consist seventy percent (70%) highland, is rather a demanding venture. This is further made difficult by the lack of communications facilities where many barangays have no access in television, internet connection or even telephones

. As such, the medium that has proven to be the most practical is radio because it reaches every single party of the community. The society have always relied on radio as an effective tool in reaching rural areas which are otherwise not easily accessible by regular means of transportation. Radio John, Binalbagan is the only Community Radio Station in the Fifth District of Negros Occidental producing original audio content, live events and exclusive programming broadcast via-on air, on-line and mobile platforms, Radio John, Binalbagan reaches over 500,000 listeners worldwide. It distributes its programming via FM Radio Station, Livestreaming and Mobile Apps, making appeal with audiences easier than ever before. The Station is the brainchild of DJ JOHN FERNANDEZ also known as DJ Manoy John who’s main purpose is to reach out to the community with his original remastred music in partnership with the DJ John Mobile Sound System. Radio John Binalbagan was initiated May 10, 2014 and managed to acquire studio, erected transmission tower and installed transmission equipment at Sitio Pag-asa, Brgy Enclaro, Binalbagan. It started with 20 watts transmission but managed to put systems in place and in the process it provided the staff and the community with very useful experience of community sound broadcast. To ensure balanced content over its 7-day 20-hour broadcast schedule the Station engaged is participative dialogue with the community through live listener’s inter-action, provides a wide range of music entertainment, a popular talk show program focusing on family, health and life issues of listeners and the Information Drive that is sponsored by the Local Government Unit, specifically the Local Risk Reduction and Management Office. The station serves as an Emergency Response System in Municipality of Binalbagan that provides emergency information and effective warning, weather updates and local community events on air with listeners calling in to bring up to date. It is also a venue to give knowledge and educate listeners with the Health Programs, Educational Activities and Safety Information towards its development and growth. Radio John, Binalbagan currently 50 watts transmission that coverage radius by area is 50km that covers up to the remote areas of of Cuawayan and Kabankalan (South) and rural areas of Bago (North). Broadcasting worldwide through Livestreaming and Media Apps gains support from the OFW Community globally, brings people from all walks of life get involved. Radio John, Binalbagan brings togetherness to the community in spite of the distance, helping the society improve in their daily lives.

The first is 12 June 1898, the current date that the Philippine government recognises and the one celebrated months ago. In 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo, the revolution’s leader, declared independence at Kawit, Cavite, ending the more than 300 years of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippine Islands; the following year he was declared President of the First Republic under the Malolos Constitution. The second was during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. The Empire of Japan sponsored the Second Republic on 14 October 1943, with Jose P. Laurel as its president. It was a kind of revival of the First Republic that was short-lived in 1901 when the United States interrupted the Philippine revolution and newfound republic. The third was on 4 July 1946. Right before the Second World War ended in the Pacific, the United States reclaimed the Philippines from Japan.
