OPEN LETTER TO THE HONORABLE GOVERNOR OF BOHOL
Dear Governor Aumentado,
First, allow me to express my admiration for your good governance and dedication to Bohol. We have seen your efforts, but I believe there is now an urgent need for change in our tourism industry.
Tourism in Bohol is hurting. As someone from the tourism sector, I see firsthand how businesses are struggling. We understand this is a low season, but what we are experiencing now is beyond that tourism feels almost dead.
We respectfully ask you to reconsider reopening two attractions that once gave life to our industry:
1. Whale Shark Watching in Lila β This activity is currently closed because of the Executive Order on βno feeding.β But with tourism now almost dead, perhaps it is time to explore solutions. We believe responsible, well-monitored whale shark watching can be done without harming the animals, while at the same time reviving the livelihood of many locals.
2. Virgin Island in Panglao β A true gem of Bohol. If reopened with strict monitoring on food, boat, and service pricing, it can again become a fair and beautiful destination for visitors.
Governor, we understand the importance of conservation, but we also know that thousands of families depend on tourism for survival. We sincerely hope for your leadership and urgent action to bring balance, protecting our natural treasures while keeping our tourism industry alive.
Respectfully,
Majoy - Freediver
