Bud Bongao is the dominant landmark of the town—six towering limestone pillars making up its peaks define the horizon as soon as you step off the plane . At around 314 to 342 meters in elevation, it's the southernmost peak in the Philippines and a sacred site where both Muslims and Christians make pilgrimages, offer prayers, and tie prayer cloths at shrines along the trail .

The hike involves a well-constructed trail—around 3,600 cobblestone steps from Barangay Pasiagan, with rest stops, railings, and even solar-powered lighting installed under the eco-tourism park project . Along the way, long-tailed macaques welcome visitors—locals even suggest bringing bananas to feed them, a common if not strictly eco-conscious tradition .

As you reach the summit, sweeping views of the Sulu and Celebes Seas, neighboring Sanga-Sanga and Simunul islands, and the town of Bongao unfold. 😁
