The Padul-ong Festival in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, is an annual celebration held every 7th of September, dedicated to honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary and the story of a mysterious passenger from Portugal and her arrival in Borongan. The story goes that in the early 16th century, a mysterious woman boarded a ship in Portugal, remaining hidden in her cabin throughout the journey, unnoticed by the crew. As they approached the Philippines, turbulent waters surrounded them, except when they faced westward toward Samar Island, where the sailing was calm.

Upon reaching the shores of Guintaguican, now known as Punta Maria, the captain discovered that the enigmatic passenger had vanished, leaving behind a beautiful image of Our Lady. Although the origin of Padul-ong remains shrouded in mystery due to the absence of written records, the festival itself has become a cherished part of Borongan's tradition.

Borongan City commemorates this mysterious pilgrimage with the Padul-ong procession. The event commences at four in the morning at a small chapel in Punta Maria, located about 12 kilometers from the city center.

Following the early morning start at Punta Maria's small chapel, the Padul-Ong Festival continues with a captivating flotilla of small boats led by a bigger vessel carrying the image of Our Lady of the Nativity, the patron saint of Borongan. These vessels sail from Punta Maria to Rawis Port, adding a maritime charm to the celebration. As the flotilla reaches Rawis Port, the festivities take to the streets with a vibrant parade. Participants, adorned in colorful costumes, joyfully dance to the lively rhythm of "Ay, Borongan!" This street parade is a visual spectacle that brings the whole community together to honor their traditions and celebrate their faith.
