Colors of Culture: Borongan City’s Festival Brings People Together
The cultural festival that is held in Borongan City every first week of September has become an integral part of the city’s social identity and experience. The annual cultural and civic program activities have become really important events where community pride, tradition and solidarity flourished.
As the first beats of the drums and the last sound of applause rang out, and the sights and sounds filled the air around Borongan City, the entire experience was one-of-a-kind. The Lalawigan National High School is a crucial part of the Borongan community experience. Hence, Lalawigan High too participated in the event to help the Borongan cultural festival flourish by allowing their band to perform even outside the premise of the competition during the civic and military parade and performances held last September 6. The colorful music from the marching bands coupled with the array of colorful costumes scattered across the street along with the funny quips from the crowd were shared with boisterous cheers as the parade took place. The feeling in the atmosphere was perfect and it represented not just as a festive occasion, but as a way to celebrate Borongan’s shared identity.
Of course, the parade represented more than just entertainment as the parade included local performers, civic organizations, and military units, which represented not only Borongan’s identity but a substantial sense of solidarity. It had become a living reminder that the relationship among people of Borongan was as vital to culture as the cultural customs themselves.
The magnetism of the celebration extended way beyond the boundaries of the city. Visitors from neighboring communities came to have a look at the spectacular show, wanting to experience the warmth and energy that makes Borongan special. They embraced the parade and events as a peek at the soul of the city.
With this annual event, Borongan City affirmed commitment to sustain its cultural heritage and promote peace and unity among its people. These events are something the city looks forward to, a tradition connecting the past with present, motivating the spirit of the future. In Borongan, fiesta fever never really ends. It lingers in and is carried by the laughter of its people and the melodies of its music as its joyous community marches on through life beyond September.
