LESSON: THERE IS NO GOD BUT ONE
I. INTRODUCTION
The Bible consistently teaches that God is one—unique, incomparable, and alone in His divinity. This truth calls us to worship Him with undivided hearts, obey Him fully, and recognize Jesus Christ as the full revelation of the one true God.
This lesson will explore what Scripture says about the oneness of God and why this doctrine is essential to our faith.
II. CENTRAL SCRIPTURES
1. Deuteronomy 6:4
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.”
2. Isaiah 44:6
“I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”
3. 1 Corinthians 8:4
“…there is no other God but one.”
These passages form the foundation of the biblical teaching that there is only one true God.
III. WHAT DOES “ONE GOD” MEAN?
1. God Is Numerically One
Not three gods
Not divided or separated
Scripture uses a singular identity for God
2. God Is Unique and Incomparable
No other being shares His divine nature
Isaiah 46:9 – “I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.”
3. God Alone Is Creator, Savior, and Lord
Isaiah 45:18 – God alone created the heavens
Isaiah 43:11 – “Beside Me there is no savior.”
The same God who created all things is the same God who became our Savior in Jesus Christ.
IV. JESUS CHRIST AND THE ONE GOD
The Bible reveals that the one God manifested Himself in flesh as Jesus Christ.
1. Jesus Is the Visible Image of the Invisible God
Colossians 1:15
John 1:1,14
2. Jesus Declared Himself as the “I Am.”
John 8:58 – “Before Abraham was, I am.”
Jesus uses the same name God used in Exodus 3:14.
3. Jesus Is the Fullness of God
Colossians 2:9 – “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”
4. The Father Revealed in the Son
John 14:9 – “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
The one invisible God became visible and knowable in Jesus.
V. WHY THIS TRUTH MATTERS
1. It Guards Us from Idolatry
Knowing that there is one God helps us avoid putting anything or anyone above Him.
2. It Grounds True Worship
John 4:24 – God must be worshiped in spirit and truth.
The truth is: one God, revealed in Christ.
3. It Strengthens Our Identity
We belong to the one who made us and redeemed us.
4. It Clarifies Salvation
There is only one Savior—God Himself in Jesus Christ (Isaiah 43:11; Titus 2:13).
