Typhoon Tino Slightly Intensifies; Landfall Expected Tonight

Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) has slightly intensified as it moves closer to the Eastern Visayasโ€“Caraga region, according to PAGASAโ€™s 5:00 PM bulletin.

As of 4:00 PM, the center of the typhoon was located 170 km East-Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h and gusts of up to 160 km/h, moving west at 20 km/h.

Typhoon Tino is expected to make landfall or pass near Homonhon Island or Dinagat Islands tonight, before crossing Leyte and Southern Leyte by early Tuesday.

Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) continues to move westward over the Philippine Sea, sustaining strong winds of 120 km/h and gusts reaching 150 km/h. As of 1:00 PM, the stormโ€™s center was located 235 km east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving west at 25 km/h.

PAGASA forecasts landfall tonight or early Tuesday over Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands, before crossing the Visayas and Northern Palawan.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 is up over Dinagat Islands and Siargao, with several provinces under Signals 3, 2, and 1. Coastal communities are warned of storm surge exceeding 3 meters and dangerous sea conditions.

Authorities urge residents in affected areas to prepare, secure belongings, stay indoors, and follow evacuation orders as needed. Sea travel remains suspended in high-risk waters.

The Philippine Electronics and Communication Institute of Technology (PECIT) opened its 43rd Foundation Day celebration with a heartfelt Thanksgiving Mass at the Capitol Covered Court. Father Ricky R. Bermudez, MSC, Assistant Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception Parish (ICP), led the community in prayer and reflection during the Mass.

The Mass became a meaningful time for everyone to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for PECITโ€™s many years of transformation and growth. During his homily, Father Bermudez spoke about how faith, unity, and service help the community achieve not just personal goals, but collective success as well.

The event was attended by the PECIT Board of Directors, faculty, staff, and students, who came together to give thanks and seek blessings for another year of academic excellence and shared commitment.

As the school celebrates its 43rd year with the theme โ€œ43 Years of Transformation: PECITโ€™s Journey of Metamorphosis Towards Greater Heights,โ€ the Mass highlighted the importance of faith as the foundation of the institutionโ€™s continuous progress and success.

A Skills Competition was recently held at the Philippine Electronics and Communication Institute of Technology (PECIT), filling the campus with excitement and energy. Students from different departments gathered to witness the outstanding talents of participants who proudly showcased their abilities in table skirting, fruit carving, layout design, and video editing. Each participant displayed focus, precision, and determination, carefully planning every detail to achieve the best possible results.
