Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, born around 1600 in Binondo, Manila, to a Chinese father and Filipino mother, was raised as a Catholic. He served as an altar boy and later joined the Dominican Confraternity. Lorenzo married Rosario and had three children but fled to avoid arrest for an allegedly false murder charge in 1636, boarding a ship with Dominican priests to Okinawa. Upon arriving in Japan, he was arrested by the Tokugawa Shogunate for his Christian faith and imprisoned. Refusing to recant, he endured horrific tortures, including being hanged upside down. His last words were, "I am a Catholic and wholeheartedly do accept death for God. Had I a thousand lives, all these to Him I shall offer. Do with me as you please." Beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1981 in the Philippines, he was canonized on October 18, 1987, and is the patron saint of Filipino youth and altar servers, with a feast day on September 28.

O most merciful and almighty God, you bestowed upon Lorenzo Ruiz the strength to withstand the overpowering forces of death for the sake of his faith in you. Through his prayers, help us to follow his example by overcoming all lifeโ€™s trials and, eventually, increase our hope and love in you.

O St. Lorenzo Ruiz, you brought honor to your country, being a level-headed and prudent father of the family, and a witness of Christ in your life until your death. We present all our petitions to god through your help so that by our actions, we may know more and love more Jesus, our lord and Savior.

We humbly implore your intercession, O dear St. Lorenzo, for the infinite glory of God and in honor of your triumph as a martyr of Christ and defender of Christianity. Amen.

Sharing some beautiful moments from the Thanksgiving Mass of our newly ordained priest, Rev. Fr. Erwin Semaรฑa, followed by a joyful Thanksgiving Party with family, friends, parishioners, and the whole community.

St. Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione in 1887 in Italy, was a devout priest renowned for his piety and the inexplicable stigmata he received. From a young age, he exhibited deep religious fervor, aided by his supportive family. Despite facing childhood illnesses and financial struggles, he pursued a religious vocation, eventually joining the Capuchin friars at 15 and taking the name Pio. He became a priest in 1910 but suffered health issues, including during World War I, when he was repeatedly drafted and dismissed. In 1918, he experienced the stigmata, which drew significant attention. Despite initial Church scrutiny, he gained popularity, attributed miraculous abilities, and established a hospital in 1956. Padre Pio died in 1968 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002, celebrated for his charitable works and spiritual guidance. His feast day is September 23, and he serves as a patron for various groups.

St. Matthew, son of Alpheus and likely born in Galilee, worked as a tax collector, an unpopular profession in Christ's time. He became a disciple after Jesus called him while he was in Capernaum. Matthew authored the first Gospel in the New Testament, written in Aramaic between 41 and 50 AD, aiming to persuade his compatriots of Jesus as the Messiah amidst expectations of a militant leader. Following Christ's death, he possibly fled persecution to Parthia, Persia, or Ethiopia, though his death remains unrecorded. Saint Matthew is often depicted with one of the four living creatures of Revelation 4:7, which reads, "The first living creature was like a lion, the second like a bull, the third living creature had a human face, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle," and is recognized as the patron saint of bankers, with his feast day celebrated on September 21.

O Glorious St. Matthew, in your Gospel you portray Jesus as the longed-for Messiah who fulfilled the Prophets of the Old Covenant and as the new Lawgiver who founded a Church of the New Covenant. Obtain for us the grace to see Jesus living in his Church and to follow his teachings in our lives on earth so that we may live forever with him in heaven.
