August 9, 2025

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) was born in 1891 in Breslau, Poland, to a Jewish family. She was a renowned student and philosopher, eventually becoming interested in the Catholic faith. She was baptized in 1922 and later entered the Cologne Carmel. Due to political repercussions, she was sent to the Carmel in Echt, Holland. When the N***s conquered Holland, she was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. She died in 1942. In 1987, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Cologne. Despite the satanic evil of genocide, her memory stands as a light in the midst of suffering. She was canonized on October 11, 1998.

Pope from 514 to 523; father of Pope St. Silverius; succeeded by St. Symmachus. He was married and widowed before being ordained, and he was born in Italy. Ending the Acacian Schism, which had split the Eastern and Western Churches since 484, was one of his major achievements. The Formula of Hormisdas, which was signed by 250 Eastern bishops and Patriarch John of Constantinople, allowed the Church in Constantinople to reunite with Rome in 519. Hormisdas also acknowledged the power of the Holy See over the global Church, reconciled Laurentian schismatics, and accepted the Tome of Leo I.

In the spirit of Synodality, the Holy Cross Parish Formation Team, in partnership with the HCP Catholic Faith Defenders, continues to journey with our chapels in deepening the understanding and love for our Catholic faith.

With the theme:
โ€œMalangkobong Pag-umol ug Pagpalawom sa Kabalaanโ€
(Inclusive Formation and Deepening of Holiness),
the session focused on grounding our lay leaders and parishioners in Church teachings, defending the faith, and strengthening our identity as a synodal Churchโ€”walking together, listening to one another, and growing as one body in Christ.

We thank all who actively participated and responded to this call of mission and communion. May this formation inspire all to be missionary disciples and bearers of light in their respective communities.

Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney, also known as John, was born in 1786 in Dardilly, France. He was raised in a Catholic home and believed in the bravery of priests during the French Revolution. Vianney was drafted into Napoleon Bonaparte's armies in 1809 and lived with military deserters in Les Noes. After being freed, he resumed his studies and was ordained as a parish priest in 1815. He worked tirelessly to reconcile people with God and received up to 20,000 pilgrims annually. Vianney was deeply devoted to St. Philomena and erected a chapel and shrine in her honor. He passed away in 1853, leaving behind a legacy of faith and being viewed as the champion of the poor.

Today, from August 4 to 8, 2025, our beloved priest from the Diocese of Butuan will join fellow priests from the Ecclesiastical Province of Cagayan de Oro (CaBuSTaMPro) for a retreat of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal.

To rediscover the gift of priesthood
To rekindle the spirit of priestly ministry
To renew the vigor as the sign of hope in the Lords vineyard

Let us lift them up in our prayers for:
โ€ข Guidance & Unity: That their time together is filled with the spirit of brotherhood and mutual support.
โ€ข Spiritual Nourishment: That they receive divine wisdom and renewal to further their service in the community.
