The live action we would have had if Netflix didn’t work closely with Oda is honestly a terrifying thought.
Anime live action adaptations used to have a reputation for completely missing the point, focusing more on big names and jokes instead of actually respecting the characters and the world they came from. That is exactly why One Piece worked, because Eiichiro Oda was involved and made sure the story, the characters, and the tone stayed true to what fans love, instead of turning it into something that only looked like One Piece on the surface but felt completely different underneath.
