In three days, members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) are set to hold a rally that has already sparked conversations across the nation. While some voices attempt to cast doubt on the intentions of this gathering, the truth is clear: for Filipino citizens who are members of the INC, this rally is a rightful and peaceful call for Transparency, Accountability, and better Democracy.

Corruption remains rampant in government institutions, with many observing that the so-called โ€œbig fishesโ€โ€”politicians behind contractors and certain DPWH engineersโ€”are rarely pursued. This rally is not about destabilizing leadership but about demanding integrity in governance. Citizens are simply exercising their democratic rights to remind leaders that justice must not bend to power or wealth.

Unfortunately, misinformation is spreading. Some claim that INC officials intend to use the rally to overthrow the government of President Ferdinand โ€œBongbongโ€ Marcos Jr. (PBBM). This is false. One of the doctrines of the Iglesia Ni Cristo is obedience to government authority. However, obedience does not mean blind support for corruption. The rally is not rebellionโ€”it is reform.

Scripture reminds us that a nation led by corrupt leaders will inevitably fall. Leaders who twist laws, truth, and justice undermine the very foundation of society. The INC rally echoes this timeless wisdom: corruption corrodes democracy, and accountability is the path to national strength.

This gathering is not about division but about unity in demanding honesty from those in power. It is a reminder that democracy thrives when citizens speak out against injustice, and that faith and civic duty can walk hand in hand.

Recently, a commenter on this page accused meโ€”as a member of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC)โ€”of being โ€œof the devil.โ€ The reason? Because INC does not adhere to the mainstream Christian teaching that Jesus Christ is God. This accusation is not new, but it deserves a careful and respectful response grounded in Scripture.

In John 8:40, Jesus said:

โ€œBut now you seek to kill me, a man who hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God.โ€

This is Christโ€™s own testimony: He is a man, sent by God, speaking the truth he received from the Father.

Just a few verses later, in John 8:44, Jesus rebukes those who reject His words:

โ€œYou are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will doโ€ฆโ€

So according to Christ Himself, those who do not accept His wordsโ€”including His declaration that He is a man sent by Godโ€”are the ones โ€œof the devil.โ€ Iglesia Ni Cristo accepts this testimony. We believe what Christ said about Himself.

In 1 Timothy 4:3, the Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible describes the teachings of demons as:

โ€œForbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithfulโ€ฆโ€

Letโ€™s examine this:

- INC does not forbid marriage. In fact, marriage is encouraged within the faith.
- INC does not forbid meat. We only uphold the biblical command to abstain from blood (Acts 15:20), not meat in general.

By this Catholic translation itself, INC does not uphold the teachings that Paul associates with demons.

The accusation stems from doctrinal differences. Mainstream Christianity teaches that Christ is God, part of the Trinity. INC teaches that Christ is the Son of God, the Messiah, and our Saviorโ€”but not God Himself. This belief is not rebellionโ€”it is obedience to Christโ€™s own words. We do not reject Him. We follow what He said.

If we are to judge by the Bible:

- Christ said those who reject His words are โ€œof the devil.โ€

- Paul said teachings of demons include forbidding marriage and abstaining from meat.

- Iglesia Ni Cristo accepts Christโ€™s words and does not forbid marriage or meat.

Therefore, by the truth in Scriptureโ€”even using the Catholic translationโ€”the accusation that INC is โ€œof the devilโ€ is not only unfounded, it is reversed. INC is a church striving to obey the words of Christ and the teachings of the apostles.

I am not a politician. I am not a lawyer. I am a father, a community servant, and a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. And like thousands of others, I will stand in Luneta this November โ€” not to protest, but to proclaim a truth: transparency is not interference. It is patriotism.

We rally because we care. We rally because we believe that a better democracy begins with honest governance. Our faith teaches us to be orderly, respectful, and law-abiding. But it also teaches us to stand for what is right โ€” even when it is uncomfortable.

That is why I was disturbed when I heard Senator Erwin Tulfo say, โ€œSometimes you have to bend the law to please the people.โ€ And when now-Ombudsman Remulla agreed, even if later he called it a โ€œfigure of speech,โ€ I felt a deep unease.

Because I have seen what happens when laws are bent. I have documented relief efforts in the dark, tracked household aid with Excel sheets, and submitted SitReps with trembling hands โ€” all to ensure that no one is left behind. But I have also seen how loopholes become escape routes for corruption. How bending the law becomes breaking it.

We cannot afford that anymore.

This rally is not about politics. It is about principle. It is about reminding our leaders that the rule of law is not negotiable. That accountability is not optional. That faith and citizenship must walk together.

I stand with my brethren not to interfere, but to inspire. I stand with my community not to accuse, but to awaken. And I stand with my country not to divide, but to defend what is just.

Let this rally be a sunrise โ€” not a storm. Let it be a testimony of hope, vigilance, and unity.

REFLECTION ON REMULLAโ€™S PATH TO THE OMBUDSMAN OFFICE

During our Worship Service last Sunday, a verse was read that struck me deeply:

โ€œBinabaluktot ang katarungan.โ€ It was from Micah 3:9, a prophetic rebuke against leaders who twist what is right.

As I heard those words, I couldnโ€™t help but remember the recent appointment of Jesus Crispin Remulla as Ombudsman. Although there were cases filed against himโ€”cases that should have disqualified him from assuming such a critical postโ€”an acting Ombudsman issued an order to return those cases, including those against Remulla, to โ€œunder evaluation.โ€

To me, this action is a clear example of pagbaluktot ng katarungan. Itโ€™s not just a technical maneuverโ€”itโ€™s a distortion of justice. It delays accountability and creates a pathway for power that bypasses integrity.

What makes this even more troubling is Remullaโ€™s public agreement with Senator Erwin Tulfoโ€™s statement that โ€œsometimes we need to bend the law to please the people.โ€ But bending the law for popularity is not justiceโ€”itโ€™s populism. And when the law is bent to serve political convenience, it ceases to protect the people and begins to serve the powerful.

Micahโ€™s warning is not just ancient scriptureโ€”itโ€™s a mirror to our present.

โ€œYou rulersโ€ฆ who despise justice and distort all that is right.โ€

As a barangay leader and faith-rooted citizen, I believe we must speak when justice is twisted. We must ask:

- Why were those cases returned to โ€œevaluationโ€ just before the appointment?
- What does this say about the independence of our institutions?
- How do we protect the integrity of public office?

This is not about politicsโ€”itโ€™s about principle. The Ombudsman must be a guardian of truth, not a beneficiary of legal maneuvering.

Let us reflect, speak, and actโ€”not in anger, but in truth. For in every barangay, every worship hall, and every heart that longs for fairness, katarungan must remain straight, not bent.

The whole evening of Typhoon Tinoโ€™s visit left our family soaked and sleepless. The winds howled, the rain poured without mercy, and our home bore the marks of its passing. Yet, as soon as the storm quieted, we began to clean the attic, making it a safer place for our child to rest.

When the first light of dawn broke through the clouds, my wife and I left our partially damaged home, our children still asleep, and walked toward the house of worship of our locale congregation of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. We knew in our hearts that making God first before anything else is our priority. Even before repairing our own home, we chose to care for His house of worship, believing that after doing things for Him, everything else we need will be added to us.

It pained us to see the roof burdened by the heavy crown of a coconut tree, its fruits still clinging to the branches. I knew the weight had caused damage. Without hesitation, my wife cleared the scattered branches while I climbed the roof to remove the coconut. Together, we secured the place where we worship God. Though tired and hungry, we went home with joy in our hearts, grateful that we could serve Him even in the aftermath of the storm.

After a short hour of rest, I went house to house in our barangay, checking the damages of every household. I took pictures of the partially and totally damaged residences, preparing the reports that would help our community rise again.

Through it all, I realized that storms may drench our bodies and shake our homes, but they cannot drown the faith that anchors us. What Typhoon Tino tried to scatter, God gathered back in unity. Service to God and to our fellowmen is not postponed by hardship; it is proven in hardship. And though our hands were weary, our hearts were strengthened. For every roof repaired, every report written, and every prayer whispered, we declare: the storm may pass, but our faith remains unshaken.

On the morning of November 3, 2025, before Typhoon Tinoโ€™s full power was felt, I joined our barangay in preparing the evacuation site. My task was to help gather the data of those who evacuated and report it to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO). It was tiring work, but necessary, because every name on that list meant a life accounted for and protected.

By afternoon, the power from SOLECO went off. Yet, by Godโ€™s mercy, our solar generator kept running, allowing me to continue preparing my report. Even in the dark, there was lightโ€”enough to keep serving.

At 10:00 PM, I was still finalizing the report about residents in different evacuation sites when the winds began to howl. I had to stop and assist my family. Together, we climbed to the attic and secure the windows, hoping to keep Tinoโ€™s fierce winds from tearing off our roof.

Then came the stormโ€™s strongest assault. From the attic, we felt the house tremble as the winds roared. For hours, we prayed and held on. By 2:00 AM, the winds began to weaken, and by 4:00 AM, Tino had passed, leaving behind broken trees, fallen coconuts, and houses stripped of their roofs.

We are still buried in loans, and now another trial has been added to our lives. Yet, as an Iglesia Ni Cristo family, we managed the stress with the help of that timely seminar through the Iglesia Ni Cristo Pastoral Counseling Officeโ€”and most of all, with Godโ€™s protection

Our minister visited us after the storm and prayed with us. His presence reminded us that we are never alone in hardship.

We promise God that despite these trials, we will continue to serve Him faithfully, in unity with the Church Administration. For though storms may shake our homes, they cannot shake our faith.

CONFESSION IN THE AGE OF CONTROL: When Admitting Troll Use Becomes a Power Move

In the age of algorithmic applause, truth is no longer just spoken โ€” itโ€™s engineered. And sometimes, itโ€™s confessed not to seek forgiveness, but to signal dominance.

Before he became president, Ferdinand โ€œBongbongโ€ Marcos Jr. appeared in a video where he calmly admitted to deploying a โ€œtroll armyโ€ โ€” thousands of online supporters mobilized to shape public perception and counter criticism. It wasnโ€™t satire. It wasnโ€™t shame. It was strategy.

The confession was delivered with a tone that felt more like a shrug than a reckoning. As if to say: Yes, we used trolls โ€” and we won. In a nation where digital noise often drowns out discernment, this kind of candor can be disarming. But it also raises a deeper question: What happens when confession becomes a form of control?

PARADOX OF CONFESSION

Traditionally, confession is a moral act โ€” a step toward truth, accountability, and renewal. But in the realm of digital politics, confession can be a tactical move. By admitting the use of trolls early, Marcos Jr. may have neutralized criticism before it could gain traction. Itโ€™s a kind of inoculation: own the sin before it becomes scandal.

Yet the civic cost remains. When leaders normalize manipulation, when troll armies become campaign tools and possibly governance shields, the line between public support and programmed applause blurs.

TROLLS IN THE PRESENT TENSE

The concern isnโ€™t just historical. Itโ€™s ongoing.

Despite the presidentโ€™s recent warnings against fake news, many Filipinos have noticed a familiar pattern: social media posts that praise the administration often attract floods of comments from suspicious, low-activity accounts. These accounts lack profile pictures, post generic praise, and echo identical talking points โ€” a digital choir that feels more manufactured than organic.

In April 2025, lawmakers raised alarms about coordinated fake accounts allegedly being used to undermine Marcos Jr. while boosting other political figures. If such networks can be weaponized against him, itโ€™s fair to ask: Were they ever truly dismantled โ€” or merely redirected?

RED, PINK, AND THE COLOR OF TRUTH

During the 2022 campaign, color became a battlefield. Red symbolized the UniTeamโ€™s strength and unity. Pink represented Robredoโ€™s grassroots hope and reform. But beyond aesthetics, these colors filtered media coverage, civic identity, and even algorithmic visibility.

Mainstream media, often perceived as sympathetic to the pink campaign, faced backlash from red-aligned supporters. In this polarized landscape, truth itself became tinted โ€” not by facts, but by filters.

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

- Demand transparency from platforms and government agencies about coordinated inauthentic behavior.
- Educate youth and communities to spot digital manipulation โ€” not just fake news, but fake engagement.
- Support independent media and watchdogs who trace these networks and expose their patterns.
- Create symbolic content โ€” cartoons, poems, guides โ€” that help communities reflect, discern, and teach.

FINAL REFLECTION

In a nation where trolls confess and truth is curated, civic vigilance becomes sacred. We must ask not just who speaks, but who scripts the applause. And when confession becomes control, discernment becomes resistance.

Another wheelchair rolls into the courtroom. Another neck brace tightens under the glare of cameras. For many Filipinos, these images have become shorthand for a familiar script: when powerful figures face charges, they suddenly appear frail, sickly, and in need of hospital arrest. It is a performance that appeals to our cultural instinct for awaโ€”compassion for the weak.

But not all leaders choose this script. Some, like Rodrigo Duterte and Sara Duterte, have built their political brand on tapangโ€”toughness, resilience, and defiance. For them, to appear weak would be to betray the very image that sustains their authority. In this contrast, we see two faces of political theater: frailty as a shield, strength as armor.

Both strategies are symbolic. The wheelchair and neck brace whisper: โ€œ๐™„ ๐™–๐™ข ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ค ๐™ฌ๐™š๐™–๐™  ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฅ๐™ง๐™ž๐™จ๐™ค๐™ฃ.โ€ The clenched fist and upright stance declare: โ€œ๐™„ ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ก๐™ก ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง ๐™—๐™ค๐™ฌ, ๐™š๐™ซ๐™š๐™ฃ ๐™ฌ๐™๐™š๐™ฃ ๐™–๐™˜๐™˜๐™ช๐™จ๐™š๐™™.โ€ Neither is neutral; both are calculated to shape public perception. Why do we allow ourselves to be swayed by these symbols? Perhaps because they tap into deep cultural values. Filipinos are quick to pity the suffering, but we also admire the strong who endure pain without complaint. Politicians know this, and they play to it. The tragedy is that in focusing on the performance, we risk losing sight of the real issue: accountability.

The true illness in our politics is not in the bodies of the accused, but in the institutions that allow justice to be delayed or distorted. Until we learn to look past the propsโ€”whether wheelchairs or clenched fistsโ€”we will remain captive to the theater, instead of demanding the truth.

In the end, whether our leaders choose to appear weak or strong, the responsibility falls on us as citizens to see through the symbols. We must ask: what is the truth behind the performance? Justice cannot be measured by wheelchairs or clenched fists, but by whether the law is applied fairly to all. If we allow ourselves to be distracted by the theater, we risk becoming passive spectators. But if we stay vigilant, questioning and discerning, we can turn the spotlight back where it belongsโ€”on accountability, not appearances.
