𝗔 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝟱-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗛𝗠𝗣
Father Saturnino Urios University recently appointed Dr. Mark Lennon A. Sitones as the dean of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Program in June 2025. Previously, THMP was part of the Business Administration Program, but due to the increasing number of students, it was requested and decided by school management to be separated. With its different policies and guidelines from BAP based on the CHED memorandum, THMP meets the qualifications to have its own program.
Navigating development, Dr. Sitones is empowered to implement strategies by creating a five-year roadmap plan, starting from 2024 to 2029. To begin such decisions, Rev. Fr. Randy Odchigue, university president, is one of the significant individuals who encourages Dr. Sitones to begin the journey of this roadmap, such as attending seminars. The five-year roadmap plan has a good foundation of support from the faculty and cooperation from the students. This will serve as building blocks to have the program acquire Level 1 accreditation and strive for a center of excellence. The five-year roadmap plan includes:
𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿
Awarded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga to grant FSUU for its establishment. This is to purchase necessary equipment for food innovation. They already primarily started the innovations through research, such as CAPSTONE projects. It is part of their goal to have trademarks, copyrights, patents, and intellectual property rights to their innovative products that can lead to the field of commercialization.
𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿
Since 2019, they have been offering diplomas in hotel and restaurant services technology under TESDA and three-year courses. This is a steppingstone for students, especially since they can proceed with a baccalaureate degree, and it only takes a year to finish. Moreover, they are pushing more to acquire national certifications under TESDA.
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
The faculty and staff have started their thorough discussions for entering and aiming for research conferences at the international level. As Dr. Sitones stated, “We do not settle only for nationals, but to expand and place a mark on internationals.”
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀
To provide a consistent and quality education, the program focuses on giving hands-on learning experiences for the students. This will lead students to become more engaged and have the motivation to participate. To lead and become a navigator for a developing roadmap plan, Dr. Sitones has the character, not just to be more of a leader-type, but to be a good follower who is diligent and responsible. He embodies and empowers the importance of collaboration between colleagues and students for achieving the vision and mission of the school. With a selfless tactic, he believes that as a united program, they will always come up with a consolidated idea suited for their goals together.
With the mantra, “to delight the guests,” rooted in his working experience in Shangri-La, Dr. Sitones shares that it is not only about satisfaction when it comes to service, but also about going the extra mile. This is a character that must be embedded and intertwined with their activities and used as a way to teach and work as an encouragement to the students.
Throughout the whole quest, may the navigation of this roadmap plan lead to the excellence and development of THMP. Under the guidance of the newly appointed dean, Dr. Sitones, together with the faculty and students of the program, they will strive to make a significant mark in their industry. A program that is increasing is also a sign that it is achieving.
