In line with the National Disaster Resilience Month, Department of Education, Butuan City Division spearheaded the division-wide event KUMIKILOS (Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng bawat Isa para maging Ligtas sa Oras ng Sakuna), to strengthen disaster readiness among students, venued at Agusan National High School, July 30.

Students from various districts showcased their creativity and awareness through poster making, painting, brochure making, and jingle performances centered on the theme โ€œKumikilos para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan, at Katatgan.

Division Disaster Risk Reduction focal person, Emelio B. Makiling emphasized that the eventโ€™s primary goal was to prepare learners for real-life emergencies.

โ€œThis activity equips students with the right knowledge and presence of mind during calamities,โ€ Makiling said. โ€œIn emergencies, they will know exactly how to respond, how to protect themselves, and how to act quickly, as the theme of KUMIKILOS reminds us, we must move and be aware of what needs to be done.โ€

Moreover, the focal person highlighted the importance of proactive learning in disaster readiness.

โ€œWe want to inspire every learner to take the right actions before, during, and after a disaster,โ€ he said. โ€œPreparedness begins with awareness, and awareness leads to saving lives.โ€

The event was made possible through the collaboration of multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Through engaging and creative competitions, Project KUMIKILOS empowered students to stay informed, proactive, and resilient in the face of emergencies.

July 26, 2025 | Citywide Synchronized Clean-Up Drive

In celebration of the upcoming 75th Adlaw Hong Butuan, Agusan National High School (ANHS) participated in the Citywide Synchronized Clean-Up Drive spearheaded by the City Government of Butuan on July 26, promoting environmental sustainability through active community engagement beyond the school campus.

According to a memorandum from the City Mayorโ€™s Office, the initiative aims to foster environmental consciousness, civic engagement, and collective responsibility in keeping Butuan clean and green.

In an interview, Sanhay Principal Elmer M. Cataluรฑa emphasized that the schoolโ€™s involvement was not only a form of commemoration, but also an act of community care.

โ€œOur participation goes beyond the celebration, it reflects our commitment into making Butuan clean,โ€ Cataluรฑa said.

Student-led clubs, organizations, and teachers came together to show unified support for a waste-free city, actively taking part in the clean-up operations around the school perimeter.

Reinforcing this effort, SDRRMC adviser and Clean-Up Drive coordinator, Gerund L. Lopez stated that this movement is also tied to the schoolโ€™s safety initiatives.

โ€œThis also aligns with our preparation to make our school neat and safe for our students,โ€ Lopez shared.

Moreover, teacher Hazel Ann Lugo highlighted the importance of student accountability in waste management.

โ€œBeing able to join in the Citywide Clean-Up Drive gives students the responsibility to be aware of their garbage,โ€ Lugo noted.

Armed with brooms, sacks, and gloves, ANHS volunteers cleaned sidewalks, drainage systems, and nearby vacant lots surrounding the campus, ensuring both efficiency and safety throughout the activity.

Through this act of bayanihan, Sanhay continues to contribute in building a more livable, and environmentally conscious Butuan.

July 26, 2025 | The Narra S.Y 2025-2026 Second Phase Screening

Aiming to discover the most promising campus journalists, Agusan National High Schoolโ€™s official publication, The Narra, conducted its second phase screening through a School-Based Press Conference (SBPC) as part of its selection process for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).

The Narra School Paper Adviser, Christoner Amontano Jamer, emphasized that the activity was designed to bring forward the top contenders from among the participants.

โ€This is designed to get the best crop among the talented student journalists of this school,โ€ Jamer stated.

Moreover, he mentioned that by conducting this activity, students can gain insights on how a real competition happens.

โ€Somehow, it is also giving them a glimpse of an exact experience of what a Division Schoolโ€™s Press Conference or Regional Schoolโ€™s Press Conference is all about,โ€ he said.

Furthermore, he added that the activity will expose the competitive spirit of students, marking a suited learner on each category given.

โ€I believe this activity will awaken oneโ€™s attitude of competitiveness, the sense to struggle to do oneโ€™s best to stand out among others,โ€ the SPA noted.

To further strengthen the activity, five guest speakers were invited to give lectures in specific journalistic categories, helping students better understand the fundamentals and expectations of their chosen fields.

In addition, the SBPC provided a platform for learners to step out of their comfort zones, take on real-time challenges, and gain confidence in their journalistic abilities.

With the second round screening made through by a School-Based Press Conference, it brings a challenge to aspiring student journalists in hopes of winning and improving their skills in the field of campus journalism.

โ€œEagles leaped, Butuan conquered"

Butuan Ballers survived a late scare game against Green Eagles, quipping a 17-16 vivid match during the 3x3 basketball exhibition game, at Special Education (SPED) Center covered court, on July 26.

The soaring Butuanon, Mark Amirulhadz aided his team firmly, securing five overall points mainly on pull-up jumpers.

Combining wit and grit, Butuan rushed through with dominance during the first few minutes, demonstrating catch and shoot techniques in order to make way for shooting.

โ€œWe centered solid screens and pick-and-roll court strategies that led us to the triumph,โ€ Amirulhadz said.

Desperate to defend their might, Butuan ballers strongly screened the enemy behind the court baseline while looking for openings to score, making Eagles unable to break through.

While on defense, the victors made sure to leave no flaw in their offense, making sure to attack with poise while safeguarding their court.

Green Eagles' untimely rally, sparked by Joe Anthony Villarโ€™s back-to-back two-pointers, briefly challenged the Ballers, but the victors swiftly regained back their court control, dismantling opposition.

Despite the late Eagles' soar, the Ballersโ€™ resilience and vigor emerged victorious, sealing the game with 17-16 by the final blow of whistle.

โ€œWe lacked defensive gameplans, it made us scramble," Joe Villar admitted.

After conquering the exhibition, Butuan ballers will continue to train harder in preparation for the District Athletic Meet this upcoming August.
