June 28, 2025 | The Narra S.Y 2025-2026 Screening

With the bar set high after Agusan National High School (ANHS) sustained its years-long streak as Overall Champion in the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), the campus is once again calling for new champions to rise. Determined to continue the legacy, ANHS recently conducted its screening to select passionate and skilled student-journalists who will represent the school in the upcoming DSPC, ready to carry on the tradition of excellence.

In a room full of aspiring campus journalists, the line between junior and senior blurred. The focus wasn't on who had the longest experience or the highest grade level-it was on who could ask the right questions, tell the most powerful story, and stand strong under pressure. In this screening, everyone was given an equal chance to prove they had the heart and skill of a journalist.

The activity opened with an orientation from 8:00 to 9:00 AM, where each participant were briefed on the expectations, responsibilities, and the journey that awaits them. The screening was spearheaded by the new School Paper Adviser of The Narra, Mr. Christoner Jamer, and the coaches from English Department, Mrs. Ederlina Jampac, Mrs. Jenny Lynn Urgel, Mr. Agan Mark N. Carag, Mr. Jerome Cempron, and our guest, Former Junior Patroller of ABS-CBN's TV patrol, Sir Ethan Josh Lovete.

During an interview, Mr. Ethan Josh Lovete boldly expressed, "Just do it. Your journey will not be perfect-you will stumble, you will fall. But still, you must continue." With resolute conviction, he urged every aspiring journalist in attendance to chase their passion relentlessly. He pointed out a powerful truth: that even in the face of failure- yes, even if one falters in today's screening -it marks not an end, but merely the forging of a stronger beginning.

In this new school year, The Narra is actively embracing a bold vision: to be louder, braver, and to represent the home of the champions-our beloved Sanhay. So, as the school pushes forward to sustain its journalistic excellence, this screening marks another step in finding and honing the voices that will tell the next great stories of ANHS-perhaps even the next national champions.

Driven to discover fresh journalistic skills, Agusan National High School (ANHS) launched an open screening on June 28 for The Narra English Publication, inviting interested students to compete for a chance to be selected as the school’s next batch of campus journalists for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).

According to the newly appointed School Paper Adviser, Christoner Amontano Jamer, these student journalist’s skills should not be kept to themselves, they should be showcased and nurtured.

“This time we’re going to make this one different, because we understand that there are gems, there are students with talents,” Jamer said during the general orientation.

In addition, the mentor led the selection with high standards, reflecting the values he wanted for the publication.

“The core values I wish for our team this year are excellence and diligence,” he shared in an interview.

He believed these merits are crucial in building not just a competitive publication, but also a dedicated group of storytellers who uphold truth and integrity in campus journalism.

Furthermore, the SPA emphasized that student journalists must avoid mediocrity, pushing them to grow beyond their limits.

“Explore new possibilities and create the best opportunities,” Jamer stated.

Facilitators, along with former Junior Patroller of ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol and Radio Broadcasting Anchor, Ethan Josh Lovete assisted in the evaluation process, ensuring a fair and insightful assessment across all categories.

Screening activities included individual categories: News Writing, Editorial Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Sports Writing, Feature Writing, Column Writing, Photo Journalism, Copy Reading and Headline Writing, and Sci-tech Writing.

While group categories covered: Collaborative Desktop Publishing, Online Publishing, TV Broadcasting, and Radio Broadcasting.

Moreover, the selection process for individual categories will follow two phases: the first will identify the top five performers per category, while the second phase, a school-based press conference, will determine the top three, where two will serve as official competitors and one as a reserve who will also contribute to the school paper.

The results of the screening will be posted soon, concluding the first phase of The Narra’s journey toward a stronger and more dynamic school publication.
