The verdict in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte could be issued as early as December 16, 2026, according to Senate Impeachment Court spokesperson Atty. Regie Tongol.
Tongol said Friday, October 2, that December 16 could be the date of the verdict if the defense uses the full 30-day period it requested for its presentation in the impeachment proceedings.
The timeline puts the December 16 verdict date at the center of attention as the impeachment trial moves toward its final stage. The date, however, remains dependent on how long the defense takes to complete its presentation and the subsequent proceedings required before the Senate impeachment court can render its decision.
If the defense fully uses the 30 days, the country could be waiting until December 16 for the long-awaited verdict on whether Vice President Sara Duterte will be convicted or acquitted in the historic impeachment case.
The projected date gives the impeachment proceedings a potentially decisive December deadline, with the final outcome resting on the votes of the senators sitting as impeachment judges.
