In commemoration to the end of Japanese colonization and World War II in the country, we celebrate today the surrender of Japanese military forces that was led by General Tomoyuki Yamash*ta alongside his 30,000 armed troops at Camp John Hay in Baguio City on September 3. 1945.

During the reign of late President Rodrigo Duterte, he signed the Republic Act 11216 that declares every September 3 of the year, it is a special working public holiday where people still take pride in the fallen Filipinos who fought hard to give us peace once again.

This day serves as our honor to the brave soldiers and the innocent civilians who fought until the end, resisting to give up the nationโ€™s peace and order. May we always keep in mind and give a little time where we reflect and think of those people who have sacrificed every little thing they have so that we can enjoy the peace and life we have right now.

Ms. Ronarain Esteban and Mr. Jviany Miguel, students under the program of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social Studies hosted the said webinar. The program opened with singing of the National Anthem, followed by a prayer led by Ms. Joela Mae Balunes.

NEUST Federation of University Student Organization (FUSO) President Aaron Sean P. Vinasog delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of being intentional in understanding history and its context. Meanwhile, NEUST University Student Government (USG) President Marnie Shynne R. Clamonte encouraged the youth to learn from the past and recognize the truth to help shape a more just and meaningful future.

The first speaker, Dr. Melanie J. Magpantay, a professor and researcher from San Beda University, discussed history, freedom, and well-being, emphasizing their significance in understanding society.

Meanwhile, Mx. Aaron "Jy Marie" E. Macalisang, LPT, LGBT, Asia' s Kween of Credentials and proponent of the WKWKWKW Theory, a college instructor from Bulacan State University (Bulsu), discussed the indigenization of the social sciences and cultural education in shaping history. The discussion blended academic insights with humor, keeping participants engaged while highlighting the importance of connecting social science and education with local problems.

Students were also given the opportunity to raise questions and exchange ideas with the speakers during the open forum. The speakers received Certificates of Recognition, while Macalisang was humorously presented with a "warrant of arrest" for her trademark "WKWKWK" Theory.

The webinar concluded with a closing message from Vice President for External Affairs of SSC, Ms. Romelle Anne Aguilar, followed by the singing of the NEUST Hymn.

This successful event highlighted how Universities across the country can be united and share the same goalsโ€“to keep and instill to the students of how history and its context are important not just as course lessons, but as a way for us to determine and assess the current system we have, on how to properly use our knowledge and voices to fight for our rights.

These are words often heard from people who donโ€™t grasp the idea of how deeply they can affect someone. Without realizing it, such words can leave a bruise on someoneโ€™s emotional well-being. Instead of throwing words at them, let us be mindful and choose to understand and be the bigger person because sometimes, the little kindness we show can mean more than we realize.

As we enter a new month, let us always remember that not every battle is visible. Behind every โ€œIโ€™m doing goodโ€ and โ€œIโ€™m okay,โ€ may be someoneโ€™s silent cry for help. Let this month remind us that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone.

A new chapter means new beginnings, new challenges, and discovering more ways on how to help someone.

Unang taonโ€”bagong paligid, bagong mukha,

May lihim na pilit itinatago sa bawat bago.

โ€œAlay sa First Yearโ€โ€”katagang aming narinig,
Ngunit bakit tila may hiwagang nakakabit?
Sa bawat ngiti nila, may lihim na nakasilip,
Sa bawat biro, may sagot na pilit nililihis.

Ano nga ba ang hiwaga sa likod ng pangalan?
Bakit bawat isaโ€™y may sariling kuwentong baon?
Bakit bawat freshie ay pinaghihintay nang ganoon,
Na para bang may rebelasyong matagal nang nakalaan?

Sa bawat tanong, sagot ay tila iniiwasan,
Sa bawat pahiwatig, lalo kaming pinag-iisipan.
