๐ฝ๐ด๐๐ |โ COEd team champions Alay sa First Year Debate Competition
First year representatives of the College of Education participated in the most awaited Alay sa First Year themed, โThe Art of New Beginnings: Opening the Year with Culture, Creativity and Communityโ which happened last October 2, 2025 in Sumacab Campus.
It officially started with a Community Walk. Various freshmen students represented their departments during the several competitions held during the event including the Debate Competition themed โFeathered Facts and Fierce Opinionsโ
The College of Education debate team is composed of three studentsโ Lian Marie Castillo of BSNED 1A as the team captain, Avril Grace Sison of BSESS 1A, and Carl Annilov Domingo of BEED 1A. Ma'am Kate Pauline Bernabe, LPT, Sir Bernard Emil Cortez MA Hist, LPT, and Sir Jericho Roque, LPT guided the team as the faculty coaches. While Aleah Marie Javate, Romelle Anne Aguilar, and Ian Renz Pangilinan trained and helped the team as the student coaches.
Held in the Seminar Hall of the College of Engineering, the elimination and preliminaries began in the morning of the competition. With the College of Engineering as their first opponent for the elimination round, ending the round with a win securing their next step in the competition. Following their journey through the preliminaries, the team competed with the College of Architecture in a fiery exchange of arguments and a heated round. In the end, the College of Education emerged as they secured their seats in the live viewing inside the Closed Gym for Semi-finals.
Four colleges remain to fight for the top, College of Education, College of Management and Business Technology, College of Information and Communications Technology, and the San Isidro Campus.
CICT and SIC paraded with their voices and firm stances as the semis started, COEd and CMBT came after with a continuous back-and-forth of arguments ending the semi-finals round. Hailed teams to proceed to the final round, which consists of a two round competition are the COEd and SIC.
Audience being unglued with their seats, heated and fierce competition, and the stage unshaken, the final round finally takes off. With the topics, โShould there be zero budget for flood control projects until the cases are decided by the court?โ and โShould government officials be banned from flying abroad to receive medical treatment?โ The debate team of COEd stayed on the opposition side in the entirety of the final round, as it was chosen randomly by draws.
Taking longer than usual, the Lip Sync Competition launches with performances. As the decisions of the judges are awaited to be finalized. After the performances of the said competition, results finally arrived. CICT was the third placer of the competition. However, in a rare occurrence, COEd and SIC ended up with a tie, both as the champions of the competition. As the program ended with a success for the College of Education continuing the mantra, keeping the fire of excellence burning.
