After his dedicated service as the Dean of CICT, Dr. Dela Cruz has been officially designated as the new Director of the NEUST Sumacab Campus. He now takes on a broader administrative mandate, guiding the overall operations and continued development of the campus community.

Taking the helm of the college, Dr. Santos has been appointed as the new Dean of CICT. He succeeds Dr. Dela Cruz in overseeing the college's academic programs and administrative affairs, steering the next chapter of technology education in the university.

Bringing pride to the student body, CICT’s very own Hon. Clamonte officially took her oath as the new Student Regent and University Student Government (USG) President yesterday, July 1. Administered by CHED Commissioner Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari at the CHED Central Office, her appointment places her at the forefront of university-wide student representation.

The Pixel and the entire CICT community extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Dela Cruz, Dr. Santos, and Hon. Clamonte on these major career and leadership milestones. 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | CICT Sumacab produces 386 graduates in NEUST’s 115th commencement, urged to safeguard the digital future

A total of 386 graduates from the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) of the Sumacab Campus were among the 1,034-member technology batch recognized during the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology’s (NEUST) 115th Degree and 131st Non-Degree Commencement Exercises held on June 16 at the University Closed Gymnasium.

They were joined by 132 candidates from the College of Architecture (CoArch), completing the Cluster 1 graduation ceremonies.

The CICT Sumacab cohort includes 77 graduates of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) major in Database Systems Technology, 130 in Network Systems Technology, and 179 in Web Systems Technology.

Carrying the theme “Excellence and Innovation in a Globalized World: Shaping Leaders for a Shared Future,” the ceremony formally opened with the declaration of SUC President III Dr. Rhodora R. Jugo. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Feliciana P. Jacoba presented the candidates, while CICT Dean Dr. Arnold P. Dela Cruz introduced the technology graduates for the confirmation of their degrees.

The highlight of the event was the commencement address of United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) National President Ar. Jonathan V. Manalad, PhD, FUAP, PIEP, who weighed in on the “diploma versus diskarte” debate, underscoring that academic achievement reflects discipline and perseverance.

“You did not choose just a piece of paper, you chose discipline. Pinatunayan niyo po na kaya n’yong tapusin ang anumang bagay na inyong sinimulan,” Manalad said.

Tying this to the rapid rise of automation, he noted that while artificial intelligence can generate blueprints or write blocks of code in seconds, meaningful innovation still requires human oversight and empathy.

“But we must never let machines do the thinking for us. Artificial intelligence has no soul. It does not understand the culture of the community you are building for. It does not possess the empathy and ethics required to safeguard human data privacy,” he emphasized.

He urged graduates to maximize automation for repetitive tasks to focus on deeper critical thinking.

“You hold the keys to the digital economy. Build codes and structures that safeguard truth and accelerate national progress,” he told ICT graduates as he concluded his speech.
Following the address, a plaque of recognition was presented to the guest speaker. Dr. Jacoba then led the graduates in the donning of their academic regalia, marking the formal conferment of their degrees.

Former Student Regent and University Student Government (USG) President Mr. John Sebastian Mangilin led the Pledge of Loyalty to the Alma Mater, while Engr. Feliciano L. Bolisay, Jr., President of the Pinag-isang Samahan ng mga Alumni, Inc., administered the alumni oath of membership.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of diplomas, marking the graduates’ transition into the professional world.

Ang kalayaang tinatamasa natin ngayon ay hindi kailanman isinilang sa tahimik na gabi. Ito ay pinaglihi sa mga sigaw ng rebolusyon, pinanday sa apos ng digmaan, at binayaran ng dugo ng mga bayaning hindi natakot harapin ang kamatayan.

Sa loob ng maraming dantaon ng pagkaalipin, ang ating mga ninuno ay nagtaglay ng di-matatawarang tapang at pag-ibig sa Inang Bayan. Sila ang nagbigay-buhay sa pangarap na maging malaya ang bawat Pilipino. Ang pangarap na iyon ay reyalidad na natin ngayon, isang pamanang may kalakip na malaking pananagutan.

Sa gitna ng mga hamon ng makabagong panahon, ang kalayaan ay nananatiling isang buhay na tungkulin. Hindi ito natatapos sa isang pahina ng kasaysayan o sa isang araw ng pagdiriwang. Hinihingi ito sa atin araw-araw: ang pangalagaan ang ating kultura, itaguyod ang karapatan ng bawat kababayan, at panatilihin ang nag-aalab na nasyonalismo sa ating mga puso.

Bilang mga mamamayan, tayo ang tulay na nag-uugnay sa mga sakripisyo ng kahapon at sa mga pangarap ng bukas. Sa ating mga kamay nakasalalay ang pagbuo ng isang Pilipinas na mas matatag, mas makatarungan, at mas maunlad.

Para sa kahapon na ipinaglaban at sa bukas na ating itatayo. Maligayang Ika-128 Taon ng Kalayaan!

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | CICT Celebrates Excellence at 2026 Recognition Day

The College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) honored its outstanding students and organizations during a Recognition Day ceremony held via Zoom on May 25, celebrating achievements across leadership, service, academics, athletics, arts, and innovation.

The program opened with the Philippine National Anthem and an audio-visual prayer, followed by welcome remarks from Dean Dr. Arnold P. Dela Cruz, who reminded students that recognition extends beyond certificates and medals.

"Recognition is not only about medals and certificates, but also about the values we develop — the importance of good character, respect for others, the challenges we overcome, and the positive impact we can create with our community and future profession," Dean Dela Cruz said.

University President Dr. Rhodora R. Jugo then delivered an inspirational message, urging students to let ethics, empathy, and creativity guide their careers beyond the NEUST portals.

"Tools change, but curiosity and problem-solving endure. Share knowledge generously, learn humbly from setbacks, and take bold steps to build solutions that serve others," President Jugo shared.

Adding vibrance to the virtual ceremony, Dr. Prince Mert O. Nicolas served as Master of Ceremonies, bringing energy and engagement to the Zoom program throughout.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | The Pixel clinches top 5 social media page, names outstanding journalists at 1st Sindiwa

The Pixel, the official student publication of the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), bagged multiple awards, including 5th Overall Best Social Media Page, at the first-ever SINDIWA: The NEUST Campus Press Freedom Awards held via Zoom on May 23.

The two-year-old publication competed against local student publications across the university. Earning spots in the Social Media Page category, The Pixel secured the following awards:

• 2nd Place, Best Editorial Entry
• 2nd Place, Best News Photos Entry: Jhondel Mark Cruz, Lance Andrei Tangalin, AJ Capule, and John Louie Dadiz
• 3rd Place, Best Literary Graphics Entry: John Maverick Diaz
• 4th Place, Best Sports Entry: Karl Paraiso
• 5th Place, Best Comics Strip Drawing Entry: John Marcus Cabiso

Adding to the college's pride, two of The Pixel's top editorial board members were recognized as Outstanding NEUST Campus Journalists (ONCJ). Head Layout Artist Camille Anne M. Garcia secured the Rank 9 spot, while Editor-in-Chief and Head Photojournalist Noemi Grace T. Natalio placed 10th. Additionally, Photojournalist Maricris B. Ferrer was honored with a Special Citation in Journalism.

"Honestly, I didn’t expect to be included. I really just tried my luck. At the same time, I’m happy and grateful to be recognized as one of the Outstanding Campus Journalists," Garcia shared.

She also credited her colleagues for the achievement, adding, "I’m truly grateful to the people I worked with in the publication, especially during my two years of service in The Pixel. I couldn’t have done it without them."

Echoing this sentiment, Natalio attributed her recognition to the publication, reflecting on her rapid growth from a junior photojournalist during The Pixel's revival to eventually leading the team.

Viewing the milestone as a fitting conclusion to her chapter with the paper, she added, "The award may carry my name, but I see it as something that represents the collective effort of everyone who became part of this journey... I'm proud to have been part of its story, and I’ll always be thankful for the opportunities, trust, and experiences it gave me."

Beyond the writing and technical categories, Ms. Denielle S. Malang and Mr. Manuel Ronan T. Santiago proudly raised the banner of the CICT during the search for the first-ever Mr. and Ms. NEUST Press. While they did not secure the crown, both candidates delivered commendable performances that highlighted the intellect, grace, and advocacy of The Pixel's staff.

Anchored in the concept of Sindiwa, a fusion of sindi (to ignite) and diwa (spirit), and revolving around the theme "Where the Flame of Truth Meets the Courage to Speak," the virtual congress celebrated student journalists as torchbearers of truth and defenders of press freedom.

Aligning with this vision, Keynote Speaker Mr. Jeffrey C. Cabal delivered a compelling plenary presentation titled "Viral o Vital sa Gitna ng Vibe Culture." He highlighted the vital role of student journalists in safeguarding integrity, reminding attendees that campus press freedom is both a right and a responsibility.

"In a culture addicted to instant reaction, journalists must remain committed to deliberate truth," Mr. Cabal emphasized.

With these recent victories, The Pixel reaffirms its commitment to delivering truthful, timely, and visually compelling news to the CICT student body and the wider NEUST community.
