Quirino State Universityโ€“Cabarroguis Campus (QSU-C) conducted a National Service Training Program (NSTP) Symposium for first-year students to strengthen civic responsibility and awareness of social issues at the LGU Cabarroguis Gymnasium, October 10.

The symposium featured lectures on drug education, national security, mental health, HIV awareness, and family planning aimed at helping students understand the value of civic engagement and social awareness in nation-building.

Among the speakers were Police Major Joel Guinobang, chief of police of the Cabarroguis Municipal Police Station; Prof. Baltazar Damance, campus administrator; and Guidance Staff Members Rizza Quella Pascua and Lorely Angel Domingo, who discussed psychological first aid and mental health awareness.

In the afternoon, the discussions continued with Campus Nurse Valerie Anne Antimano, who lectured on HIV awareness, and Midwifery Instructor Krizza Alona Eloi Ramos, who talked about family planning and teenage pregnancy awareness.

Aerron Baes, a first-year BS Civil Engineering student and United National Service Organization (UNSO) officer, said the symposium helped students better understand how social issues such as drug addiction affect both individuals and communities.

Intermission numbers from NSTP students were presented between lectures, followed by the awarding of certificates and tokens to the speakers.

Flashpoint | Face to Face

Two minds. One board. Every move cuts deep; every silence waits to strike. In chess, there are no cheers, no noiseโ€”only the sound of thought pressing against thought.

Each player watches, plans, and prays that the next move will tip the balance. Face to face is not just a match. It is pride meeting pride, patience meeting fire. It is how calm learns to live beside chaos.

Life plays the same way. Choices line up like pieces, and pressure never leaves the table. You donโ€™t win by rushing. You win by holding your ground, by thinking through the storm, by meeting every move with nerve and heart.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY | Itโ€™s Okay Not to Be Okay

Weโ€™ve all been thereโ€”the third all-nighter in a row, the dread of looming deadlines, and that constant, exhausting pressure to look like we always have it together. For students, this isnโ€™t just a tough weekโ€”itโ€™s often an everyday reality. Behind the smiles and the casual โ€œIโ€™m fine,โ€ too many of us are silently struggling with stress, anxiety, or even depression.

Mental health challenges are often invisible, yet they affect us more than we realize. Countless studies show that students who neglect their mental well-being are more prone to burnout, poor academic performance, and strained relationships. The truth is simple: mental health matters just as much as our physical health.

But stigma still keeps many of us quiet. For generations, people were conditioned to see mental health as a sign of weakness rather than a natural part of being human. Itโ€™s time to stop viewing it as something to hide. The more open and honest we become, the faster we can break this toxic cycle of silence.

Raising mental health awareness isnโ€™t about labeling peopleโ€”itโ€™s about building a community where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. It begins with the smallest acts: texting a friend to genuinely check in, setting aside time for self-care, and understanding that asking for help is an act of strength, not surrender. We need to step up and create real, judgment-free spaces where conversations can heal.

Mental health awareness is more than a causeโ€”itโ€™s a lifeline. So as we mark World Mental Health Day this October 10, 2025, letโ€™s do more than talk about it. Letโ€™s make a promise to genuinely ask the people around usโ€”our friends, classmates, and familiesโ€”โ€œAre you really okay?โ€ Show kindness, offer support, and always remember: itโ€™s truly okay not to be okay, and you never have to go through it alone.

Faculty members and civil engineering (CE) students of Quirino State University โ€“ Cabarroguis Campus (QSU-C) strengthened their technical proficiency in hydraulic systems through hands-on training conducted by Humil International Corporation.

Held at the CE Departmentโ€™s Laboratory Room 2, the training was facilitated by trainers Lhenon Sireรฑo and Dan Erwin Malabuyo as part of the departmentโ€™s continuing effort to provide students with practical exposure in fluid mechanics and hydraulics applications on October 8.

During the session, the trainers delivered lectures and led demonstrations using Bernoulli's Apparatus, Flow by Weirs, Metacentric Height, Hydrostatic Apparatus, and the Hydraulic Bench, which provides controlled water flow for fluid mechanics experiments.

In addition, participants also took part in a tilting flume experiment to visualize fluid motion and calibration processes.

According to CE Student Council Governor Kyrth Justin Laitan, the activity helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the function and operation of laboratory equipment used in their major engineering courses.

โ€œPara maging aware kami as CE students kung paano gamitin ang mga equipment na tinuro. As another learning din para sa subject na under ang mga equipment na ito,โ€ Laitan said.

The event concluded with Engr. Marvin Ray Sanglay, BSCE Program Chairperson, together with faculty members and student leaders, awarding certificates to the trainers.

Every October, the global community comes together to observe ADHD Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This campaign highlights both the challenges and strengths of individuals with ADHD through education, advocacy, and acceptance.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how the brain regulates attention, activity level, and impulse control. It impacts both children and adults, yet remains widely misunderstood. Common symptoms include difficulty focusing, staying still, and controlling impulses. Through awareness, more people can access proper diagnosis and timely support, leading to improved well-being and quality of life.

ADHD Awareness Month promotes early diagnosis and treatment, which are crucial for managing symptoms. In the Philippines, ADHD remains misunderstood and underdiagnosed due to stigma, lack of awareness, and limited healthcare access. As a result, many Filipinos do not receive the support they need. Awareness campaigns help dispel misconceptions, provide accurate information, and build compassionate communities that embrace neurodiversity. They also encourage inclusive environments where individuals with ADHD can thrive, drive research, and expand access to resources that empower people on their individual journeys.

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—”๐——๐—›๐——

ADHD often runs in families and is highly heritable. Differences in brain structure and function may affect a personโ€™s ability to focus and self-regulate. Environmental factors such as early-life stress or exposure to toxins may worsen symptoms, though they are not direct causes. Prenatal and early-life factors, including alcohol, smoking, drug use during pregnancy, low birth weight, and birth complications, may increase risk. Delayed brain maturation in areas responsible for motivation, attention, and behavior regulation may also contribute.

While ADHD presents challenges in concentration, impulsivity, and emotional regulation, it also brings strengths such as creativity, determination, and innovative thinking. With proper support that includes therapy, medication, and lifestyle adjustments, individuals with ADHD can succeed. Schools, workplaces, and communities all play vital roles in fostering understanding, acceptance, and opportunities for people with ADHD to flourish.

Throughout ADHD Awareness Month, various activities are held worldwide to promote education and support. People can join webinars and workshops to learn more about ADHD, participate in support groups to connect and share experiences, and engage in social media campaigns using hashtags such as . Others may also take part in fundraising and advocacy initiatives that help improve care and accommodations. These efforts create inclusive, understanding, and supportive environments for everyone.

ADHD Awareness Month calls on all of us to learn, embrace, and support neurodiversity. Together, we can break stigma, raise awareness, and celebrate every individualโ€™s strengths. Let this month inspire you to act, learn, and advocate for acceptance, because together, we can make a lasting difference.

National Indigenous Peoples Month
โ€Ž
This month, we are reminded to reflect, pause, and honor the living bridges to our pastโ€”the guardians of sacred lands, keepers of our traditions, and weavers of our stories through music, dance, and rich cultures. The Indigenous Peoples stand as a testament to unity, resilience, and identity that strengthen the Filipino nation.
โ€Ž
The Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Rights Act of 1997 (IPRA), officially designated as Republic Act No. 8371, is a Philippine law that recognizes and promotes the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples across the country.
โ€Ž
To the Indigenous Peoples, to say โ€œI am proudโ€ embodies the very spirit of this month. Though speaking in different dialects, their words carry the same heartbeatโ€”pride in oneโ€™s roots and heritage.
โ€Ž
Let us not only celebrate but also reaffirm our responsibility to protect, preserve, and uplift the legacy of our Indigenous Peoples. Their story is our story, and their pride is our pride.
โ€Ž
โ€œProud nak nga IP!โ€
