A person’s true character shines not when life is easy, but in how they treat others when they’re angry, frustrated, or not getting their way. Someone who loves you won’t repeatedly disrespect you and then expect forgiveness each time. They won’t harm you and then try to cover it with excuses, gifts, or empty apologies.

Kindness without consistency is just manipulation. If you ignore cruelty because you’re waiting for the “better side” of them to show again, you’re only teaching them that their behavior has no consequences. Protect yourself by remembering: masks can be worn, but patterns can’t be faked. The way someone treats you in their worst moments tells you far more than how they act when everything is going right.
