Iginiit ni Sen. Robin Padilla na dapat nang alisin ang Senior High School (SHS) dahil umano sa dagdag na hirap na dinaranas ng maraming pamilyang Pilipino sa ilalim ng K to 12 program.

Sa kanyang panukalang amyendahan ang Republic Act 10533 o Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, nais niyang ibalik ang basic education sa Kindergarten, anim na taon ng elementarya, at apat na taon ng high school.

Ayon kay Padilla, bagama’t layunin ng K to 12 na mapabuti ang kalidad ng edukasyon at gawing globally competitive ang mga estudyante, naging dagdag pasanin umano ito sa maraming magulang.

“We cannot deny that many Filipino families are struggling to afford the extra two years of schooling,” ani Padilla.

Binanggit din niya ang umano’y pagtaas ng dropout rates dahil sa dagdag na taon sa pag-aaral.

“If the result of the system is that more youth are forced to drop out, we need to think about whether this is really the right direction,” dagdag niya.

Iginiit din ng senador na hindi pa rin sapat ang kasalukuyang SHS curriculum upang ihanda ang mga estudyante para sa trabaho o kolehiyo.

Samantala, sinabi rin noon ng Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) na marami pa ring SHS graduates ang hindi pa handa para sa BPO industry at kailangan pang i-update ang curriculum lalo na sa harap ng pag-usbong ng artificial intelligence.
