POP DRUNK PUNK SHARES THE STORY BEHIND “AKALA”

Pop Drunk Punk is a five-piece pop punk band from Malolos, Bulacan, formed in August 2024. The lineup features Yrhone Marquez on vocals, Alvin Soriano on lead guitar, Edcel Puaso on rhythm guitar, Mj Del Rosario on drums, and former bassist Miguel Soriano, who was later replaced by Eron Capule.

Before forming Pop Drunk Punk, Alvin and Eron were already bandmates in high school, building a musical chemistry that would later influence the group’s sound. This early connection became a foundation for the music they create today.

The band originally started as a cover group performing songs by Ang Dating Don Juan, 123 Pikit!, and Forgetting 69. These influences helped shape their style, eventually leading them to develop their own distinctive pop punk sound.

Their latest release, Akala, tells the story of a man who experiences love at first sight with a woman. He tries to find out her name, unaware that she already has a boyfriend. Upon discovering the truth, he chooses to keep his feelings to himself, as expressed in the bridge: “hindi nalang papansinin kahit ika’y agaw tingin, hindi nalang lilingunin isisigaw nalang sa hangin.”

Currently, Pop Drunk Punk is working on their first EP album, Liham.

SLITWRIST SAVIOR RELEASES EP “STORIES TO TELL”

Slitwrist Savior, a metalcore band formed in late 2024, has officially released its EP titled Stories to Tell. Inspired by a track from Carnifex, the Rizal-based group aims to convey themes of human connection—both with oneself and with others—through their intense and hard-hitting sound.

Stories to Tell offers a glimpse into the complexities of the human experience, exploring topics such as self-discovery, the challenges of helping others without setting boundaries, recovery from abuse, and the influence of anger on thoughts and actions.

The tracks draw inspiration from personal experiences as well as the stories of people close to the band. Through their music, Slitwrist Savior hopes to reach listeners who have gone through similar situations, letting them know they are not alone.

FRAGMENTS TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “END/OR” ON AUGUST 8

Fragments, also known as FragmentsCULT, will release their new single “END/OR” on August 8, 2025, through The Orchard. A music video will accompany the track and premiere on the same day.

Formed in 2017 by Niko Cezar, Jason Magat, and Carl Gonzales, Fragments is a five-member metal/rock band currently composed of Cezar (vocals), Ryan Mitchell (guitars), Felix Manzanas (bass), and Keiran Tumpalan (drums). The group is recognized for combining harsh vocals with melodic riffs, prominent bass lines, and high-tempo drumming, often paired with visual elements in their performances.

“END/OR” is described by the band as exploring themes of impostor syndrome and declining self-worth. Lyrically, it reflects an internal struggle between resignation and perseverance. Musically, it features dissonant melodies, heavy guitar work, and shifts between softer verses and more intense passages.

The track is the first release to feature drummer Keiran Tumpalan, whose style the band says adds a new dimension to their sound. While Fragments’ previous material has included political and anti-religious commentary, vocalist Niko Cezar has indicated that “END/OR” focuses more on personal reflection.

The song’s title was partially inspired by Star Wars: The Battle of Endor, which the band has likened to the concept of choosing between ending something or continuing to endure.

will also embark on a short tour called “END/OR BAR TOUR to promote the release:

August 9 – Saguijo, Makati (Music Video Launch)
August 30 – Tahanan, Novaliches QC
September 6 – Cavite

Additional updates and information about the single and tour dates will be available through the band’s official channels. https://linktr.ee/fragmentscult

OCEAN TAKES IT SET TO RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE “AWAY” ON AUGUST 8

Ocean Takes It is a band founded in 2024 in Cavite, by a group of friends united by their shared love for artists like Citizen, Slowjoy, Bird, and Movement. Blending elements of alternative shoegaze, dream pop, and indie emo, the band offers a fresh take on these genres, infused with a distinctly local flair.

The name It reflects the essence of their music — laid-back, hazy, and sometimes unpredictable. Their sound combines soft, dreamy vocals with fuzzy guitar textures and steady, understated rhythms, creating an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and new. It’s the kind of music suited for long drives, overcast afternoons, or quiet moments alone.

The band’s debut single, “AWAY”, set for release on August 8, explores themes of loss and departure — not only from another person, but also from a former version of oneself. The track expresses the quiet ache of change, the sorrow of letting go, and the faint hope that something better lies ahead.

DESERTED HOPE SHARES THE STORY BEHIND “WHERE YOU USED TO BE”

Deserted Hope is a five-piece emo/alternative band from Luzon, formed in late 2024. Their nostalgic sound takes you right back to the early 2000s emo scene. With three songs now available on major streaming platforms, each track explores different shades of loss and heartbreak.

According to the band, the story behind their single, “Where You Used To Be,” is deeply personal. Grief changes things. Places you once knew become quiet reminders of who’s no longer there. For Luna, the band’s frontwoman, this song came from that space.

After losing her father, Luna found that grief didn’t come all at once. It arrived in waves—quiet, strange, and heavy. But one fear stood out: “What if I forget the sound of his voice?” There were no voicemails, no recordings, just silence where his presence used to be.

Writing the song was painful. What started as Luna’s personal process of mourning became a shared emotional release for the entire band. Each member had experienced their own loss, and this song opened the door to feelings they had all kept buried. Writing sessions were filled with silence, tears, and moments where words or chords just wouldn’t come. But through that pain came healing and this song.

The cover art for the single features the Abad Santos LRT station in Manila. To most, it’s just another city stop. But to Luna, it holds meaning.

Her father worked there. It was his place, his post. Rain or shine, she’d see him there after school, leaning on his tricycle, smiling. That quiet, everyday exchange shaped her understanding of love and sacrifice.

Now, that corner feels different. It looks the same, but something’s missing. The rhythm has changed. That space has become a monument, not made of stone, but of memory. It reminds her of a man who lived with dignity, and whose presence is still felt long after he’s gone.

“Where You Used To Be” is not just a song. It’s a memory, a mourning, and a melody for the quiet moments that meant everything.

LABAO ST. SET TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “FALLIN’” ON JULY 29

Labao ST., the OPM alternative rock/pop band from Napindan, Taguig City, is back with a brand-new single titled “Fallin’,” dropping this July 29.

Formed by childhood friends Denzel Natividad (lead guitar) and James Dulo (rhythm guitar), the band later grew to include Patrick Dulo (drums), Chris June Rick Paulino (bass), and finally Mhike Laconsay (vocals), completing their five-piece lineup. What started as a group of friends jamming with basic gear has evolved into a rising band with stories to tell and emotions to share.

Since 2019, Labao St. has been recording songs independently — using whatever equipment they had, capturing raw, unpolished sounds filled with emotion. These early recordings became their Archives album, a compilation of memories and stories from their early years. Their most recent release, Kaibigang Demonyo, was written five years ago and marks the band’s return as they continue the journey they once paused.

Their upcoming single, Fallin’, blends emo, alternative rock, and honest storytelling. It’s the kind of song you’ll put on late at night — when you’re thinking about someone who broke your heart. It’s not just for the heartbroken — it’s for those who are deeply, painfully hurting.
