MUNCHKIN OUANO RELEASES NEW SINGLE “CHOOSE ME”
Independent singer-songwriter from Cagayan de Oro City, Munchkin Ouano has released her new single “Choose Me,” marking her comeback after a four-year break from recording and releasing music. Known for blending R&B, neo-soul, and pop influences, Ouano has long drawn from personal experiences to shape her storytelling and sound.
“Choose Me” is a slow, soulful R&B track built around longing, vulnerability, and the desire to be chosen, even if the moment is brief. The song was inspired by a fleeting but memorable connection, an encounter that lingered emotionally long after it passed. Ouano describes the track as a way of expressing feelings she didn’t say out loud at the time, capturing the ache of wanting something that might not be meant to last.
The creation of the song began simply, with notebook scribbles and guitar chords before being produced into its current polished form. According to a feature about the release, the track reflects the relatable feeling of wondering whether one is enough, while holding on to tenderness even in temporary moments.
Ouano cites influences ranging from jazz and soul to contemporary R&B artists, naming inspirations such as Ella Fitzgerald, Victoria Monét, and RAYE. Her music is also shaped by her experiences performing, collaborating with local musicians, and engaging with the independent music community in Cagayan de Oro.
With “Choose Me” now released, Ouano is preparing more music, including collaborations and future recordings. She has expressed interest in releasing an EP featuring songs developed alongside fellow artists.
