‘BLITZ’ DROPS DEBUT ALBUM ‘911,’ URGES REVIEW OF MENTAL HEALTH LAW

Independent punk rock trio Blitz has released its debut album 911, a concept record exploring mental unrest and the importance of safe spaces. Alongside the release, the group expressed support for continued discussion and evaluation of the country’s Mental Health Law.

Formed in San Mateo, Rizal, on July 1, 2023, Blitz consists of Ian Maghanoy (vocals and guitar), Ryan Abesamis (bass), and Bryan Victoria (drums). The band emerged from the Eastern Metro Manila DIY music circuit, performing alongside fellow independent acts from the Never Submit Collective (NSC) and the wider alternative music community. They frequently perform at Noise Control Studio in Marikina City, which serves as a creative hub for local artists.

The album 911 presents themes of emotional struggle and recovery through a mix of punk rock, grunge, emo, and alternative rock influences. It was recorded over a period of two years in a small home studio, with the band handling much of the production process themselves. Additional production support came from Chino Solas of Studio 6505, who helped refine the final sound.

According to the group, 911 aims to convey the experience of navigating personal challenges and mental strain while maintaining the spirit of independent music. The project reflects the perseverance common among local musicians who work within limited resources to express their stories through sound.

STRAWBERRY SWEETS RELEASES NEW SINGLE “PANAGINIP”

Indie band Strawberry Sweets from Balanga, Bataan, has released a new single titled “Panaginip.”

The song was inspired by a series of lucid dreams about someone special. It tells the story of holding onto feelings that feel more real in dreams than in waking life. With its lyrics “sana ’di magising,” Panaginip captures the longing to stay in a dream that feels too good to end.

Formed after a school event performance, Strawberry Sweets found real chemistry and a shared love for making music that expresses fleeting feelings and dreamlike moments. Their sound mixes smooth vocals, melodic tunes, and heartfelt lyrics.

REBIRTH PH ANNOUNCES UPCOMING GIGS AND CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM IN THE LAGUNA METAL SCENE

R E B I R T H Ph , a rising metal band from Santa Rosa and Cabuyao, Laguna, continues to make its mark in the local music scene with a series of live performances scheduled in the coming months.

Formed on April 13, 2024, the band features Ernan delaCruz Suligan on vocals, Ton-Ton Rimorin and Ezekiel Briagas on guitars, Andrew Natividad on bass, and Andy Celones on drums. Drawing influence from bands such as Lamb of God, Slipknot, and Slapshock.

The band shared that their name represents a fresh start. “It’s a new beginning for us, and that’s why we named it Rebirth Ph,” they said.

FUNKEESTAS RELEASE NEW SINGLE “UNVEIL”

Independent funk-rock band Funkeestas has released a new single titled “Unveil.” The track blends funk rhythms, psychedelic elements, and dark tones, presenting a more atmospheric and cinematic sound compared to their previous work.

According to the band, “Unveil” explores a heavier and more experimental style while maintaining their mix of funk and rock influences. The single completes a trilogy that includes earlier releases “Funkery of the Warlocks” and “Gremlins of Funk.”

Funkeestas was active from 2001 to 2009 in Angeles City, Philippines, performing regularly at the annual street festival Tigtigan, Terakan keng Dalan and releasing an independent album in 2006. The band paused activities after 2009 but began revisiting their music in 2016 with a cover of Eraserheads’ “Wishing Wells,” which was later granted a mechanical license for legal release in 2024.

Since 2023, the group has been gradually returning to the music scene, releasing both new and re-recorded material. The current lineup includes original members Marcus (guitar) and Dirtwurx (bass), along with Rob (vocals) and Kevin (drums).
“Unveil” is available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.

WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE? RELEASES NEW EP “8BIT”

WhatsYour Excuse, a three-piece band from Pili, Camarines Sur has released their latest EP titled “8bit.” The record features an alternative and emo pop-punk sound and is now available on Spotify. The songs touch on themes such as family, inner struggles, and faith.

The band shared that their music has been years in the making.
“Since 2004, we’ve been writing songs across different bands. Even when some groups disbanded, we kept the music alive. Eventually, a production team (Struggle Records) invited us to record, and through that experience, we learned how to do DIY recording,” they said. “This 9-track EP features songs that mean the most to us, and we hope others will enjoy them too.”

Most of the tracks are inspired by real-life experiences, telling stories of love, family, and personal challenges.

“8bit” is now streaming on Spotify and other major platforms.

DEAR PHOEBE DROPS NEW SINGLE “TULA”

Alternative pop band Dear Phoebe has released a new single titled “Tula.” The group, formed in 2017, is influenced by well-known OPM acts such as Orange & Lemons and Eraserheads. The band is composed of Pong (vocals), Simon (guitars), Migs (bass), and Ivan (drums).

The track explores the experience of a relationship that begins with sincerity and promise but later reveals incompatibility. Its lyrics reflect the pain of heartbreak, the struggle of being alone again, and the uncertainty of whether love is worth continuing—much like an unfinished poem.

With “Tula,” Dear Phoebe continues to showcase their style of combining relatable themes with melodic arrangements.
