𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗥𝟮𝟴𝟴𝟵 (𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮-𝗢𝘇𝗮𝗺𝗶𝘇)

Philippine Airlines Flight PR2889 (Manila–Ozamiz) safely landed at Ozamiz Airport (OZC) at 6:14 AM today. Upon arrival, the aircraft was temporarily unable to taxi to the terminal due to a nose wheel steering issue.

All 161 passengers have safely deplaned.

We are coordinating closely with airport authorities to clear the aircraft and resume normal operations. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers and the public.

A Philippine Airlines aircraft encountered engine trouble while on the runway at Ozamiz Airport earlier today, June 16, 2025.

The plane suddenly came to a stop, prompting the cancellation of the flight and temporarily disrupting airport operations.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident and assess whether the engine requires repairs.

In an official statement released, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council of Barangay Gastav has announced the cancellation of all sports events originally scheduled for the upcoming Sport Fest 2025.

According to the council, the decision was made following a disappointing turnout for two key pre-festival activities: the Tree Planting Initiative and the Youth Symposium.

“Out of over 400 youth in our barangay, only a few showed up,” the SK Council noted. “Our goal was to foster holistic involvement not just in sports, but also in civic and educational engagements.”

The SK emphasized that participation in these events was a prerequisite for the continuation of the sports tournaments, which included popular games such as Mobile Legends (ML), Basketball, and Volleyball.

The council expressed appreciation to those who did take part in the preliminary activities, stating:

“Thank you to those who joined the Symposium and Tree Planting. Your support means a lot.”

While the decision may be disappointing to some, the SK Council reiterated their commitment to nurturing responsible, community-oriented youth.

The House of Representatives approved on third reading House Bill No. 11287 on June 9, 2025. The bill seeks to extend the term of office for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from three to six years.

It amends Sections 42 and 43 of Republic Act No. 7160, also known as the Local Government Code of 1991.

Lawmakers aim to promote continuity and stability in local governance through the proposed extension.

Senate Approves House Bill No. 9334 on Final Reading

In a historic development for higher education in the region, the Senate has approved on final reading House Bill No. 9334, which seeks to convert Sulu State College (SSC) into Sulu State University. The bill passed with an overwhelming 21 affirmative votes and zero objections or abstentions.

The legislative milestone marks a significant leap forward in the province’s educational landscape. The conversion aims to enhance access to quality tertiary education, bolster academic programs, and strengthen research and innovation in Sulu and nearby areas.

The bill, which now awaits the President’s signature to become law, will officially establish Sulu State University ushering in a new era for the institution and the communities it serves.

SSC President Dr. Charisma Samparani Ututalum, CESE, extended her heartfelt gratitude to lawmakers, the college community, and all stakeholders who supported the initiative. She described the approval as “a victory for education and progress in Sulu.”

“This achievement is a testament to our collective dedication. As we transition into a university, we are committed to delivering world-class education and contributing meaningfully to regional development,” said Dr. Ututalum.

The upgrade to university status is expected to bring about enhanced academic offerings, improved facilities, expanded research opportunities, and a more vibrant campus life. The institution aims to become a hub for innovation and excellence in Mindanao.

The SSC community and local residents have expressed excitement and pride in the development, which they see as a beacon of hope for future generations of Tausūg students.
