LOOK | Philippine stars inaugurate world-class Tagaytay Velodrome on Olympic Day
SEA Games bronze medalist Ronald Oranza and international cycling standout Jermyn Prado of PhilCycling were the first to ride the newly-built UCI-standard indoor velodrome in Tagaytay City Last Monday, June 23โmarking a symbolic milestone for Philippine cycling in celebration.
Joining the inaugural event were Olympic gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo, two-time Olympic medalist Nesty Petecio, and several other national athletes, highlighting the growing momentum of elite sports development in the country.
The ceremonial start was led by Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) President Datoโ Amarjit Singh Gill and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President and PhilCycling chief Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, who also serves as Mayor of Tagaytay City. Cavite Governor Athena Bryana Delgado Tolentino and various NSA officials were also present.
The Tagaytay Velodrome is a 250-meter indoor track that meets International Cycling Union (UCI) standards. Built by Canadian firm Junek Velodrome, it features a 7.1-meter-wide track and is designed for international-caliber events.
In a significant announcement, Tolentino confirmed that the Philippines will host the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships from March 25 to 31, bringing together approximately 350 cyclists from 45 countries.
Describing the velodrome as โa dream 20 years in the making,โ Tolentino expressed hope that this facility will pave the way for even greater achievements in Filipino cycling.
