Listening is a Love Language 😊
Proverbs 1:5
“Let the wise listen and add to their understanding”
The Bible is so into “Listening” than talking. Do you know that there are seventy(70) verses that highlights about “Listening” ?
If you are like me, one of my struggle is really I talk a lot 😅. This maybe comes from wanting to be heard. But I have found out that our world is full of talkers and that seldom are true listeners. The problem of talking so much is the condition of the heart within. People, even my self, are self-centered. When someone comes for us and opens up, we immediately share our own story rather than listening to what the person is going through in his/her life. We tend to give advice and address the problem but forgot to address the real issue, the real emotion. (Self-centered). Hays Lord please grow me in this area.🥹
I have found so much interesting values that I can grow in the area of a “Listening Vessel”. God is a relational God and we are His image bearer. So, He created us relationally too. If you aloft or distance yourself, you feel hurt right ? So, no one is meant to live alone. In our world where it’s being distorted, we crave love and attention. So, as natural human being, I crave for that. That’s why if I master exercising and applying as a good listener by His grace, people will feel loved and valued. Relationships within my Family, Friends, Workmates and Discipleship group are important tome so I need to apply it over and over again.
Been reading through this book “How to listen so people will talk” by Becky Harling and maybe it can help you also. In the first page of this book, I highlight the words that greatly strucked me. And I quote,
“LEARNING TO LISTEN WILL DEEPEN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, ESTABLISH YOUR CREDIBILITY AND GIVE YOU A REPUTATION OF BEING WISE”
That’s why Jesus said “Therefore, consider carefully how you listen”
How is your listening area so far ? 😊
When someone comes again next time, ask this question to that person “Did I listen so well ?”
