๐Ÿฆ†๐ŸŒพ Feeding Ducks Smarter (and Cheaper!)

This study tested three types of diet formulations for ItikPINAS-Itim ducksโ€”based on actual, intermediate, and published energy values of common feeds like corn, rice bran, and soybean meal.

๐Ÿ‘‰ What did they find?
All ducks grew just as well regardless of diet type. But those fed diets based on actual (AV) and intermediate (IV) energy values:
โœ… Ate more feed
โœ… Had better feed conversion
โœ… Andโ€”most importantlyโ€”cost less to grow (lower feed costs overall)

Leg and bone measurements were also similar across groups, meaning growth wasnโ€™t impacted.

Recognizing excellence fairly and efficiently is key to fostering motivation and continuous improvement among student organizations. In a newly published paper in the Mindanao Journal of Science and Technology (Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed), ๐‘๐ž๐ฒ๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐ค ๐. ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐š from the Development Communication Department, College of Arts and Sciences, Bukidnon State University (BukSU), along with researchers from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines โ€“ Cagayan de Oro, introduces a data-driven approach to evaluating student organization performance. The study implemented a mathematical approach, particularly Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to ensure a fair and objective recognition process in the USTP Kahamili Awards. Findings revealed that the Constant Returns to Scale (CRS) model provided the best fit, enabling a more accurate and systematic assessment of organizational efficiency. This research underscores how innovative, data-based evaluation systems can promote transparency, fairness, and continuous development in higher education institutions.

๐Ÿ†โœจ Celebrating Excellence at USTP CDO!

The USTP Kahamili Awards honor outstanding student organizations, but traditional manual evaluations can be biased or inefficient. This study introduced a data-driven approach using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to objectively measure efficiency. ๐Ÿ“Š

Results for Academic Year 2021โ€“2022 showed three academic and three non-academic organizations performing exceptionally well. Benchmarking also highlighted areas where other organizations can improve and grow.

Using DEA, the university can now recognize excellence fairly while providing insights for continuous improvement across all student groups. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ง Genes and Milk: Finding the Better Milk Producers Among Goats!

Did you know that the amount of milk your goat produces could be written in its genes? ๐Ÿงฌ This study looked at a specific gene called CSN2, which helps produce casein, a protein found in milk. Researchers tested 101 crossbred Anglo-Nubian dairy goats to see if tiny genetic differences (called single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs) in this gene affect milk yield.

They discovered two versions of the gene โ€” AA and AA1. Goats with the AA version produced more milk (about 0.87 L per day) than those with the AA1 version (about 0.65 L per day). ๐Ÿฅ›

The results suggest that breeding goats with the AA gene could help farmers raise goats that give more milk โ€” a simple yet powerful insight for improving dairy production! ๐ŸŒฟ

Cellulase โ€” an enzyme with many industrial uses โ€” becomes even more useful when it can be reused efficiently. This study explored how to immobilize cellulase using pectin extracted from mango peels ๐Ÿˆ as a natural, low-cost support material.

By testing different calcium chloride concentrations and curing times, researchers found that 2% CaClโ‚‚ for 10 minutes gave the best results โ€” achieving a 93% immobilization efficiency! ๐Ÿ’ช

The findings show that mango peel pectin can effectively hold and stabilize enzymes, reducing waste and cost while making enzyme-based processes more sustainable. ๐ŸŒฑโš™๏ธ
