APPRECIATION POST SHORT STORY:
This happened earlier today around 3:30AM. My husband and nephew picked me up from the office. Knowing my husband, he is always very careful and practices defensive driving. However, just after passing the One Oasis area, we suddenly heard a disturbing noise.
I tend to be overly cautious about things like this, and I immediately knew something was wrong with our car. Thinking that maybe some plastic or debris had gotten stuck in the tires, I asked my husband to pull over and check. To our surprise, it wasn’t plastic or trash at all—it was a medium-sized piece of metal, larger than a screw or nail! Within a minute, our tire had completely deflated.
Thankfully, we acted quickly and set up our early warning device right away. If we hadn't pulled over when we did, our rim could have been damaged, leading to even bigger problems.
Just three minutes later, a police car pulled up, and two officers approached us. They assessed the situation, asked if we had a spare tire, and, after we explained that we preferred to have it repaired, they offered to check for the nearest vulcanizing shop.
A few minutes later, they returned with a mechanic, who quickly removed the tire. That’s when we saw it—a spark plug had been embedded in the rubber! The officers then took the mechanic and my husband to the shop to get our tire fixed, ensuring that everything was properly taken care of before returning.
I told them how grateful we were that they found us, and they responded by saying that whenever they see a vehicle with its hazard lights on, they always stop to check if they can assist in any way. Before leaving, they made sure we were safe and that everything was in order.
Honestly, I haven’t always been a fan of police officers, especially with all the controversies surrounding some of them these days. But these two were different. Their kindness and willingness to help made a huge difference for us.
Thank you, Officer Gado and Officer Darang of Pasig City PNP. Your compassion and dedication did not go unnoticed! Tagging Mayor Vico Sotto, Pasig City Public Information Office
