Dear Mommy, Mama, Nanay,

Thank you for choosing your children, even when the choice was difficult.

Mothers never needed to be perfect. They only needed to show up, day after day, through it all, even when exhaustion, fear, and uncertainty felt like too much to bear. And they did. Always.

We know what motherhood took from you. Dreams deferred. The sleep you lost and will never recover. Hours that became days that became years. Pieces of yourselves that you gently set aside so your children could grow into theirs. It's a sacrifice that becomes heavier and clearer as time passes.

But you were there. When your children stumbled, you caught them. When they cried in the darkness, you didn't hesitate, you comforted them without fail. When illness or fear or confusion overwhelmed them, you held steady, not out of obligation, but out of love. You made them believe they were enough, that they mattered, that they were worth every sacrifice you were making.

You fed them, worried about them, believed in them fiercely, even when they couldn't believe in themselves. You worked to provide, came home exhausted but still had room in your heart for them. You listened when they needed you to. You loved them on the hard days, the thankless days, the days when loving felt like the most difficult thing you'd ever done.

Every warm, delicious, home-cooked meal, every small sacrifice, every invisible moment of care, it was all unconditional love. A love so constant and quiet that its true magnitude only becomes clear with time.

Thank you for being exactly what your children needed. Thank you for the things you did that went unseen and often unspoken. Thank you for not giving up, even when it would have been easier.

Thank you for being a mother.

To all mothersโ€”past, present, and still to come: Thank you for everything. Your love is the quiet force that shapes generations.

Happy Mother's Day.

๐—ก๐—”๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Sunday said that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will issue a subpoena to Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Monday to personally appear before the CIDG office "in aid of investigation".

Remulla clarified that a subpoena will be issued and not an arrest warrant amid speculations on the possible arrest warrant for Dela Rosa.

News of an alleged arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against the Senator circulated online yesterday but the court explained that it had not issued a new arrest warrant in connection with the ongoing crimes against humanity case involving former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

What does it mean when we carry something we cannot touch, yet we always feel?

This month of May, we celebrate the National Heritage Month, inviting Filipinos to reflect on that question through the theme โ€œRoots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future.โ€ More than just a celebration, it becomes an opportunity for us to look our heritage not only as something we inherit, but as something we continue to shape.

This highlights the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)โ€™s official poster, with banig as its symbol representing connection, continuity, and community. Each strand of the banig stands for stories, identities, and traditions that are carefully woven together. Just like the Filipino identity, these strands create something meaningful when united. It also shows different communities, which emphasizes that heritage belongs to everyone and is expressed in our everyday life.

On the other hand, the rising sun in the poster represents hope for the future, while the vibrant colors reflect the richness of Filipino culture. These elements show that our heritage is alive and constantly evolving. It is not limited to history books or special events. Instead, it continues through the actions, beliefs, and shared experiences of people across generations.

In our very Colegio, heritage is something students experience daily. It is seen in the values taught inside the classrooms and practiced outside of it. Being part of an institution with a strong historical background reminds us Letranites that we are connected to a larger story. Students carry not only academic responsibilities but also the role of preserving and promoting our culture in our own simple ways.

Our heritage lives on in us, and it is our responsibility to carry it forward.

Students Raise Concerns, Demand Clarity in OVPA Dialogue on the Modifications of Learning Delivery

CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA โ€” Concerned collegiate students alongside some faculty members gathered at Room P104 to discuss the recent announcement of the Office of the Vice President for Academics (OVPA) regarding the shift to online classes for all programs and year levels.

Rector and President Rev. Fr. Roman L. Santos, O.P. and Vice President for Academics Dr. Floricon Encabo attended the dialogue to answer the people's questions and bring clarifications on the situation.

Students from different programs as well as parents and guardians expressed their feelings on the matter. While recognizing the need to conserve energy and follow government protocols amid the ongoing global industry crisis, the students questioned the sudden shift of learning modality, the confusing implementation of the shift especially to those with different schedules, the additional burden to students with annual dormitory contracts as well as the energy consumption in their respective homes during online classes, and the uncertainty in lifting the guidelines to resume face-to-face classes for all.

While the administration stands by its initial decision, it reaffirms the students that they will continue proper coordination to ensure smoother implementation and the campus will remain open for various activities.

The OVPA memorandum, which was released on April 24 but was not publicized by the official Letran Calamba page until April 28, was met with outpouring concerns and skepticism, with many students questioning the sudden release of the announcement without conducting consultations with the student body.

๐—ก๐—”๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | The 38 Filipino crew members aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius are seeking repatriation to the Philippines following a hantavirus outbreak linked to the vessel, but government officials said they must first comply with international medical clearances and health protocols before they can return home.

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said authorities are continuously monitoring the condition of the Filipino seafarers and coordinating with their manning agency and the shipโ€™s operators.

Cacdac said all 38 Filipino crew members have so far tested negative for hantavirus despite the outbreak onboard the Dutch cruise vessel. The ship was reportedly allowed to dock near the Canary Islands after several passengers became ill.

The DMW chief added that some of the Filipino seafarers have expressed their desire to return home, but repatriation efforts must comply with strict international health measures due to the global concern surrounding the outbreak.

According to reports, three passengers aboard MV Hondius died while several others were hospitalized after contracting the virus, which health experts believe may have originated before passengers boarded the vessel. The World Health Organization earlier said that while human-to-human transmission of hantavirus remains rare, investigations are ongoing.

Cacdac assured the public that the Philippine government, through the DMW, the Department of Health, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, continues to coordinate with international health authorities to ensure the safety of the Filipino crew members.

Aspiring Student Leaders Assessed by the Student Body in Annual MDA Ahead of Letran Halalan 2026

CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA โ€” Candidates vying for positions in the upcoming Letran Halalan 2026 took center stage at the Saint Joseph Hall for this year's Miting de Avance on May 6.

The panel included Dr. Ann Reshier Bayugo, Director of the Student Services Department (SSD), Gioelli Marie Borja, the Secretary General of the Alliance of Recognized Student Organizations (ARSO), and Mr. Adrian Valencia and Krishia Faye Matienzo, Adviser and Editor-in-Chief of The Knight Publication.

The event served as the final leg of the campaign season where candidates presented and clarified their platforms and stances on campus-wide and national issues, addressed student concerns and clarifications, and further promoted active student participation in the upcoming collegiate student elections and other student-led initiatives. Multiple premade and follow-up questions were asked to the candidates who represented their slates: Presidential candidates of academic and non-academic organizations, Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates for the student councils, and the entire Letran Calamba Student Government (LCSG) slate. Notably, concerned students have successfully fielded candidates for the LCSG after years of vacancy in major positions.

Organized by the Letran Commission on Elections with the help of The Knight Publication, the Miting de Avance provides a necessary space for aspiring student leaders to share their plans and clarify questions and concerns raised by fellow students and the panelists before the election proper.

The Letran Calamba collegiate student elections will be held on May 13, 14, and 19.
