Laguna Governor Sol Aragones on Sunday announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels in the province of Laguna tomorrow, August 10, due to continuous inclement weather.

All academic institutions are advised to shift to alternative learning modalities.

The Alas Pilipinas ended their tour of duty with a silver finish at the 2nd Leg of the 6th SEA V.Cup, by outlasting Indonesia 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 33-31.

The team's performance makes it the best result that the Philippines' women's volleyball national team has gotten, as they have accumulated a total of 6 bronze finishes in the past reiterations of the regional tournament.

The team now looks forward in their preparation for the upcoming Asian Games this September, which will be held in Japan.

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND โ€” World No. 65 Alas Pilipinas Women pulled off a monumental upset, ending a seven-year losing spell against World No. 28 Vietnam with a gutsy 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 victory in Leg 2 of the 2026 SEA V Cup at the Chiang Mai Sports Complex on Saturday, August 8.

The breakthrough triumph marked the Philippines' first victory over their regional rivals since 2019, snapping a 15-match losing streak against the Vietnamese squad. After dropping the tightly contested opening set, the Filipina spikers rallied under the steady orchestration of team captain Jia De Guzman. Eya Laure delivered a stellar 22-point performance to lead the charge, while backrow support from Alyssa Solomon (17 points) and Bella Belen (16 points) kept the pressure on Vietnamโ€™s backline.

Alas Pilipinas seized control in the second frame behind clutch net defenses from Thea Gagate before Laure closed out the set to level the match. The momentum fully swung in favor of the Philippines in the third, bursting to an early double-digit cushion and staving off a late Vietnamese rally to claim a 2-1 set lead.

Vietnam mounted a furious comeback in the fourth set, erasing a six-point deficit to knot the score at 22-all. But Belen halted the bleeding with a key kill, setting up Laure to score an off-the-block hit followed by a match-clinching block on Tran Thi Thanh Thuy to seal the historic win.

With the victory, Alas Pilipinas improved to 1-1 in Leg 2, keeping their podium hopes alive ahead of their crucial match against Indonesia. Meanwhile, Vietnam remained winless in the second leg.

Today, August 8, Catholics around the world celebrate the feast day of St. Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). Born in 1170 in Caleruega, Spain, St. Dominic dedicated his life to studying Godโ€™s Word, preaching the truth, and serving others with humility, compassion, and charity. Through his mission, he established the Dominican Order in 1217, emphasizing the importance of study, faith, and preaching.

As Letranites, we celebrate St. Dominicโ€™s feast day by honoring our Dominican heritage and reflecting on the values he lived out. His commitment to truth, excellence in learning, and service to others continues to inspire the Letran community to pursue knowledge with purpose and use it in the service of God and humanity.

May we continue to embody the Dominican spirit of Prayer, Study, Community, and Service, following St. Dominicโ€™s example of becoming bearers of truth and light in todayโ€™s world.

Office operations are likewise suspended.

The Feast of St. Dominic de Guzman is considered as an institutional holiday by the Colegio.

Laguna Governor Sol Aragones on Thursday announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels, both in public and private, for August 7, Friday, due to continuous heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Maymay.

Modular or online mode of learning shall be implemented by academic institutions.

As of press time, the province of Laguna remains under the Yellow Rainfall Warning.

The United States government has formally requested the extradition of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez confirmed.

Quiboloy is facing multiple charges in the US, including child s*x trafficking, bulk cash smuggling, and other federal offenses. The official request marks a critical step in the legal process following his indictment in the US federal courts.

According to the Ambassador, the formal extradition request was transmitted to the Philippine Department of Justice.

The Office of the President through Memorandum Circular No. 122 suspended the classes in all levels as well as work in government offices in various areas that are currently experiencing heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Maymay including the province of Laguna. The decision was recommended by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

With this, those who work in government offices except agencies needed for immediate emergency services are hereby advised to stay at home for their safety. Meanwhile, possible suspension of work in private companies must be consulted with the institutions' respective heads.
