Jessica Sanchez Reclaims Her Dream,
Wins America’s Got Talent After Two Decades

It took nearly 20 years, but Jessica Sanchez’s moment has finally arrived.

The Filipino-American singer, who first gained national attention as the teenage runner-up on American Idol at age 16, was crowned the grand winner of America’s Got Talent Season 20 on Wednesday night (US time). Her victory was widely viewed as the culmination of years of perseverance, reinvention, and holding fast to a long-held dream.

In the finale, Sanchez delivered a standout performance of “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, which sealed her win and the $1 million prize. When host Terry Crews announced her as winner, she tearfully told the crowd: “I’m sorry, I’m really emotional. This is amazing. Thank you so much, America.”

When videos of the finalists’ families were shown, her mother, Edita, stated that “I’m so very proud of her, that she is going after her dream.”

Jessica’s victory is more than a win of talent—it’s a full circle moment. From a young girl with big dreams to a woman who never stopped chasing them, this is her story of redemption.

House Approves Funding of ₱12.3B FHE Deficiency for SUCs, LUCs

QUEZON CITY — The House Appropriations Committee announced the allocation of ₱12.3B to settle the Free Higher Education deficiency from 2022-2025 after the grueling House deliberations on the proposed budgets of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and State Universities and Colleges. The ₱7.8B will be released by CHED while the rest will be covered by the Congress.

From 2022 until 2025, SUCs in the Philippines have been receiving insufficient fundings that should have been allotted to them based on the Republic Act 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, causing what many groups call a Free Higher Education (FHE) deficiency. Kabataan Partylist clarified that the 2026 FHE deficiency which amounts to ₱3.3B is not included in this decision.

"This will provide all SUCs nationwide a much-needed infusion to address worsening conditions due to underfunding," ACT Teachers Partylist Representative Antonio Tinio said in the partylist's statement on the recently concluded deliberations.

Meanwhile, Gabriela Women's Party Representative Sarah Elago urges fellow lawmakers as well as the youth and students to remain vigilant and continue to call for a more accessible education system in the country. “Simula pa lang ito. Magpapatuloy ang ating laban hanggang maisakatuparan ang buong pondo para sa libreng kolehiyo sa General Appropriations Act. Patuloy tayong mangalampag para sa tunay na libreng edukasyon, mula Kamara hanggang Malacañang,” the solon stressed in the partylist's recent press release.

Every year on September 24, the City of Calamba, Laguna, celebrates Yulo Day to honor the birth anniversary of the late Chief Justice Jose Yulo, Sr.

Under Republic Act 7581, established on December 24, 1994, September 24 is declared a special non-working holiday in Calamba City, Laguna.

Before assuming the role of Chief Justice, he began his career in humble beginnings, serving as secretary of justice and house speaker, representing all branches of government. During one of the most challenging times in Philippine history, specifically the Japanese occupation, Jose Yulo, Sr., was appointed the new Chief Justice due to his dedication and knowledge. He was one of the first to improve our legal systems, making our courts more accessible and fair to the public.
